Chapter 7, The Haunted House in the Ghost Village (Part 2)
I noticed an old record player placed in the corner, which now carries a somewhat antique connotation, especially with its large horn-shaped head that looks quite awkward from any angle
I was startled by him, especially by his gaze, which was quite unsettling. I then asked him what he was doing
Pan Zi seemed a bit dazed; after I had asked for quite a while, he suddenly came to his senses and said to me, "Why am I thinking about needing to urinate?"
I gestured to Panzi, and the two of us ran over to the opposite tiled house, bending our waists as we went.
Then he became angry, but he was also a bit scared. He adopted a slightly altered tone and said to me, "This ghostly laughter is too damn perverse. Not only has it been following us all the way, but why has it changed flavor upon reaching the village?"
I observed that there was no urinal in the room, so I said to him, "Why not go outside and find an open space to take care of it?"
The outdoor scene has not changed much, still enveloped in a deathly silence. We stood at the door, surveying our surroundings. Apart from a tile-roofed house across from us, the other tile-roofed houses are somewhat distant. Upon analysis, it seems more likely that the singing is coming from the house across the way.
During my time in prison, I learned some unconventional skills from other inmates, particularly the ability to pick locks. I specifically carried a small toolkit at the back of my waist, which contained items such as wires and hard cards.
Pan Zi agreed with this idea, and as we opened the door to go out, we both deliberately tiptoed.
I took out the card, inserted it into the gap of the door, and waited for the sliding mechanism to confirm the accurate position of the lock. Then, I forcefully pushed against the latch and pried it open
I am truly impressed by this man. He just sweated so much, and he hardly drank any water in the evening with the books. How is it that he still feels the urge to urinate at night
Just as I touched the doorknob, the singing stopped, especially since it had been at a high pitch. It was clearly a sudden interruption. I was somewhat taken aback, standing still with Panzi for a moment, hoping that the song would return, but to my disappointment, there was no sound from outside.
We carefully exited, both of us being clean individuals. The house was as it was when we entered, and it remained the same as we left. Once we returned to our place of residence, I had no other thoughts for the moment; I just wanted to sleep quickly and restore my energy before anything else
Pan Zi could not help but cover his mouth, nearly letting out a sound.
This laughter is of the "heh heh" kind, which is quite different from the previous "hee hee hee" ghostly laughter. If it weren't for our sensitivity, this laughter would be easily overlooked.
This indicates that there is someone behind the tiled house. The two of us signaled each other to be quiet and crept along the wall to the back. When we crouched down to take a look, we saw that there was a well behind the tiled house, and a plump old lady, who we did not know when she had arrived, was sitting by the well with her back to us.
I couldn't figure it out for a moment, and at that time, Panzi also made a discovery and called me over to take a look
Although leaning against the window is rather impolite, there is really no other way at the moment. Pan Zi quietly approached the window, and he leaned in without any reservations, his entire face nearly pressed against the glass. However, it was too dark inside, and he could not see the situation clearly.
I was not by the window and had no idea about the specific situation inside. After Panzi observed for a while, he described to me, "There is clearly no one living here, and although the room resembles a *picture*, it has obviously been cleaned by someone. Don't you think that's strange?"
With just one glance, I recognized that the plump old lady was the same chubby middle-aged woman in the photograph. I never expected that time would pass so swiftly, and she has now become an elderly person
She said to the well, "Aunt Zhang, your son asked me to inquire if you need any more money. Does he need to burn some more for you?"
We tidied up a bit, grasped the switchblades in our hands, and walked together towards the door. I was secretly pleased while listening to the singing, thinking to myself that if she had the ability, she could keep singing like that. If only we had another half a minute, we would be able to catch her.
I took the opportunity to remind Panzi to avoid staring at people directly in the evening, as it can be quite frightening. However, upon hearing this, Panzi appeared perplexed and even asked me in return, who stares at people directly like that.
I truly could not bear to listen any longer, and I was on the verge of hallucination, constantly feeling as if a cold hand were touching my spine. I exchanged a glance with Panzi, and we gradually retreated, quietly returning to our own rooms
After searching for a while with Panzi, we found nothing else. I thought it over and decided to focus on Liu Hui for this task. When I see her tomorrow, I will engage her in conversation; I am sure there will be progress.
However, after a few knocks, there was no response from inside the room. I found it strange and increased my force, even striking it with my fist at the end.
I lay in bed, lost in thought, and eventually dozed off in a daze. However, nothing strange occurred in the latter half of the night, but that does not mean we will have a peaceful day tomorrow
Although they are all tile-roofed houses, the one across from us is much better than the one we live in. Even the glass on the windows has been polished to a shine, reflecting a subtle glimmer in the moonlight
I also find this task too challenging. On the very first night we arrived in Suiyuan Village, we encountered so many bizarre occurrences, especially a series of unsolvable mysteries.
Pan Zizheng was pulling the "chicken rack door" when he was startled by the laughter, causing him to lose his composure and pull faster. I couldn't see clearly what he bumped into, but he let out a groan of discomfort.
I cannot answer, my mind is filled with such questions
He took out the flashlight he had brought with him and shone it inside.
Her actions startled both Panzi and me. I thought to myself, isn't she clearly talking to a dead person? Especially by that well, could it really be hiding a ghost?
We tiptoed over in that direction, but before we reached our destination, we heard a faint voice coming from behind the tiled house
Such a fine house, I guess the people living inside must hold a significant status in the village. I pondered for a while, thinking to use thirst as an excuse to knock on their door and test the waters.
He is opening a drawer, inside which lies a black-and-white photograph featuring three women. One is a girl with braids, while the other two are middle-aged women, one of whom is surprisingly overweight, her waist comparable to that of a barrel.
Panzi and I discussed again, and I mean that even if we cannot find the source of the sound, the two of us should still go for a walk outside
However, the situation I was worried about did not occur, and before long, she began to nag again
After Panzi returned, he began to smoke one cigarette after another. Although https://www.hetushu.com did not say much, it was evident that he was under a lot of pressure
Pan Zi has been waiting beside me. Seeing that there is still no response, he becomes anxious and points to the window, saying, "You wait a moment, I will lean out the window to take a look."
I was initially puzzled as to why Panzi called me, thinking that this photo might even be older than both of us. How could I recognize anyone in it? However, upon closer inspection, I noticed a black mole between the eyes of the little girl, and it turned out to be Liu Hui from her childhood.
Panzi and I brushed the soles of our shoes together, with Panzi leading the way while holding a flashlight, and the two of us crawled in one after the other
Pan's expression was somewhat off as he asked me, "Didn't we just come back from there? There's no one in the room."
She didn't notice that we were secretly watching her, holding a piece of paper in her hand, glancing at it while turning her head to the well, talking to herself.
At first, I didn't knock very hard; I just tapped a few times in rhythm. If the owner of this house was indeed singing just now, then she must not have been asleep and would certainly have heard the knocking.
To be more precise, this cannot be considered a significant discovery; it merely indicates that Liu Hui is acquainted with the owner of the house, and may even have a close relationship with them. However, when viewed in context, I can't help but feel that Liu Hui must be aware of the ghostly laughter and is also clear about the origin of that singing.
I have a feeling that the three people in the black and white photograph, Liu Hui and the plump elderly woman, have already appeared. As for the other woman, we will eventually meet her, and she may even encounter us in an unexpected manner.
I said, "Anyway, you've finished urinating, let's go over to the other side and take a look."
My curiosity was piqued by what Panzi said, so I tried pulling the doorknob again and found that the door was still locked.
This reason makes it impossible for me to refuse, and I truly do not want anything to happen to Panzi. After we went out, we circled around to the back of the tile-roofed house, where there was a patch of wasteland.
Or when Panzi covered his mouth like this, making some small noise, the plump old lady suddenly stopped, turning her head suspiciously to look in our direction
We both quickly retracted our necks, fearing that she might discover us. At that moment, I felt a bit nervous and intentionally perked up my ears, worried that the old lady might come our way
Panzi and I remained still, quietly listening to what she had to say
I must say, this room is not only very clean, but also filled with a pleasant fragrance. Without needing to discuss it, the two of us instinctively began to wander around separately
Panzi smiled apologetically and said he wanted me to accompany him for a trip, as this village was peculiar, and he was afraid of potential dangers if he went out alone
She then deliberately leaned her head over the edge of the well, responding with a few "mm-hmm" and "ha-ha" before looking at the paper and asking another question.
I first looked around, and after confirming that no one was watching, I crouched down to examine the door lock. This is a standard Grade A lock, and it is not difficult to pick.
I suddenly have a question: if this village has no electricity, what is the use of this record player? Or did this village have electricity in the past
I am not sure whether he is just being evasive; I merely mentioned it casually and did not delve deeply into it. Just as Panzi had just finished his business, a faint laughter drifted over from a distance
I did not think like Panzi; I was savoring the source of the laughter just now and felt that it seemed to be coming from the tile-roofed house across from us
But it was not long after we lay down that Panzi sat up again, staring at me intently
