Chapter 4, Blue Pencil
Su Jinjing nodded seriously and said, "I think it makes sense. I just asked, and all the young doctors and nurses here are single. The married doctors got married at other hospitals before being transferred here. Even so, there are quite a few who got divorced after being transferred here!"
In the darkness, a somewhat chilly child's voice emerged: "The morning light is shrouded in red, even more intense than usual. Huh? You have two layers of light on you, one layer is intensely red, and the other layer is intensely blue. How strange, you are the only one like this."
It was only when Zhang Dadao opened the door that some light poured in. The thick curtains in this ward were quite rare. With the light coming in through the open door, one could see a small figure sitting in a corner, hugging its knees. As Zhang Dadao closed the door, plunging the ward back into darkness, he said: "Are you closing the window again? Did you see something unpleasant again?"
Zhang Dadao was taken aback for a moment, stroked his chin, and reluctantly conceded: "Alright, you have a point. But it doesn't matter, since you will be discharged from the hospital anyway. You are still young, and there will be plenty of opportunities to find a suitable place to live."
Hmph ~ The little girl snorted, and only then did Zhang Dadao turn his head and get up to open the door. Just as he was about to step outside, he suddenly turned his head and said: "Make sure to get some sun when you have the time; you look so pale that you seem bloodless."
Zhang Dadao nodded indifferently, not caring whether the person speaking to him in the darkness could see him or not. After nodding, Zhang Dadao sat down and said: "I know, bad things are red, and good things are blue, right? I can see some of it too, not as obvious as you. It turns out that the blood light in the center of the eyebrows is real! You were right, someone died again this morning over at Building 3."
Zhang Dadao was momentarily taken aback, as the little girl climbed back to the corner, hugging her knees and glancing at the colored pencils in her hand. Zhang Dadao raised an eyebrow and said to the little girl: "Alright, since you will be discharged soon anyway, I won't say much more. Your grandmother is a remarkable person; you can see strange colors, so listen to her and don't tell anyone else. Otherwise, you might end up being sent back here!"
The young girl nodded slightly. Seeing that she had fallen silent again, Zhang Dadao, with a hint of urgency, took the initiative to speak again: "How have you been considering the matter we discussed last time?" A rare glimmer of desire appeared in Zhang Dadao's eyes
The young girl coldly remarked: "Marriage is the grave of love, and the civil affairs bureau is equally fraught with peril!"
Your presence here is indeed of no help; in a place like a hospital, how many good things can there be? It is certainly more ominous than auspicious. With a keen eye for fortune and misfortune, spending all day observing these unfortunate events, it would be a miracle if your mood were to improve! Given your situation, you might as well stay next to the civil affairs bureau!
Zhang Dadao was taken aback and looked at him, saying: "Do you really believe it? I just said it casually"
Zhang Dadao cheerfully exited the rehabilitation building and made his way back to Building 3. He returned just in time for lunch, having finished the meal brought by the caregiver. While munching on an apple, Zhang Dadao played with the blue colored pencil, muttering to himself, "That little pencil's grandmother is quite remarkable!"
Su Jinjing was chattering away when Zhang Dadao drove him away. Zhang Dadao then looked at his retreating figure and said: "Indeed, I did not miscalculate; this fellow has an unusual red aura about him. Something is bound to happen to him!"
As soon as he left the little mole's ward and turned a corner, Zhang Dadao leaned against the wall. Wiping away the nonexistent cold sweat on his forehead, he muttered to himself in a tone filled with disdain, "Deceiving children is truly troublesome! After dealing with the childish ones, I still have to handle that precocious one. Fortunately, I am mentally ill! Otherwise, I would surely go insane!" After dealing with the childish ones, I still have to handle that precocious one. Fortunately, I am mentally ill! Otherwise, I would surely go insane!
Zhang Dadao pondered for a moment and said, "Did I not tell you last time that I am missing a blue pen for my drawing?"
"Who is going to get into trouble?" The sudden voice from behind made Zhang Dadao shiver.
It seemed that he had adapted to the darkness, and Zhang Dadao could vaguely make out the figure. Sitting in the corner with her knees hugged to her chest was a girl in a dress. If the little mole was a little girl, then the one before him could be described as a big loli. This big loli held a colored pencil in her hand, her head buried in the crook of her arm, with her hair cascading over her shoulders. However, it was still too dark to discern her expression.
As she pondered, Su Jinjing entered through the door again, her face filled with worry as she sat beside Zhang Dadao. In a mysterious whisper, she said: "Do you think this place hinders romance? Would it be better if I were transferred to the outpatient department?"
"Forget it, I'll just give you one! You're so big yet still deceiving! You must want to see more blue, right? My grandmother gave me two, so I'll give you one!" The big loli said as she stuffed the colored pencil in her hand into Zhang Dadao's hand.
The large loli suddenly crawled in front of Zhang Dadao, staring at him for quite a while, her dark eyes reflecting an eerie light from an unknown source in the darkness. Zhang Dadao, with his dead fish eyes, maintained eye contact with the large loli, showing no change in expression whatsoever. The atmosphere was quite strange; after a moment of staring at each other, the large loli finally let out a sigh
Ah? Did I say that?" Zhang Dadao scratched his head and then said calmly, "It's the same, I'll draw a picture first and then fix the desk lamp! Isn't it just a colored pencil? Will you give it to me or not? Running back and forth like this is so tiring!" As he spoke, Zhang Dadao wiped his eyes.
After finishing this sentence, Zhang Dadao suddenly chuckled foolishly, laughing for quite a while, until a passing nurse approached him with a look of suspicion, at which point Zhang Dadao regained his composure. After finally sending the nurse away, Zhang Dadao made his way upstairs. Upon reaching the front of a patient room, he tried the door and found it slightly ajar, so he gently pushed the door open and walked inside. As soon as he entered, Zhang Dadao squinted his eyes; the curtains in the room were drawn tightly, making it almost as dark as night.
A little nurse passing by almost dropped the medicine she was holding in shock. She glared at Zhang Dadao with resentment, while Zhang Dadao adjusted the pencil stuck in his ear, walking along with his dead fish eyes rolling, muttering: "Light red? This little nurse is about to have some bad luck! Hmm, it seems she is going to be cheated on by her boyfriend! I thought it was strange when I saw him attracting peach blossoms before; it turns out to be a peach blossom calamity."
Zhang Dadao laughed and said, "Are you foolish? There are only a few young people like this. If you go on a blind date and tell them you work in a mental hospital, do you think the girl will be interested in you? It's not surprising that people get divorced; the divorce rate has already exceeded 50% now. Moreover, working in this cursed place comes with such great pressure. Hurry up and get away; seeing you brings bad luck!"
Having said that, without caring about the reaction of the young girl, he stuck the pencil into his ear and hummed a song as he walked out of the rehabilitation center: "I am a great thief, I fear nothing. I am not afraid, not afraid at all, if I become schizophrenic, I will fear nothing..." The chaotic song mixed together, combined with Zhang Dadao's off-key voice, made it sound even more bizarre
The young girl remained silent, and Zhang Dadao rolled his eyes, only able to say: "What did the others say about your situation? Depression, right?" The young girl subtly nodded, and although Zhang Dadao was unsure if he had noticed, he continued to speak.
The little girl, with a breathy tone, said: "If you lack blue, why not go to the pharmacy and find a bottle of blue potion? Moreover, you told me last time that you were going to use it to fix your desk lamp, as a support."
The young girl suddenly lifted her head, looking at Zhang Dadao, and after a long while, she spoke: "Is the blue on you starting to shake? Why do you want this?"
