Chapter 4, A Strange World
Good evening! Charlotte exclaimed, as she finally realized why she had felt something was amiss earlier; it was because the timing was wrong! When the airplane experienced an abnormal situation during its flight, it was clearly daytime, and the process of falling was quite brief, yet by the time she landed in the lake, it was already nighttime
"I accidentally got scratched by the grass." Charlotte shrugged helplessly, plucking a small piece of grass and chewing it to replenish the moisture in her body: "This place is so strange, the grass is so tall, and the fish and birds are quite deformed..." At this point, she paused, looking up at the clouds: "Do you know where we actually are?"
I have said it before!" Charlotte glared at him: "Wait for the rescue!"
Charlotte's entire body ached, but ever since the appearance of the man-eating giant fish, she knew that the water was no longer safe. No matter how exhausted and disoriented she felt, she could only swim for her life. When she could no longer swim, she would lie on the surface of the water, gazing at the countless stars to rest for a moment. In the end, she did not know how long it took her to reach the shore, but the horizon was already faintly brightening, and a red sun was about to rise.
Charlotte was a bit angry: "Do not speak of others in such a shameless manner. Your life-saving grace, I will repay it sooner or later"
A scene of lush greenery unfolds before the eyes, with brilliant sunlight shining through.
The water's edge stretches far away, with gentle waves rippling.
At this moment, Charlotte finally realized that his eyelashes were indeed very long, and when they fell, they obscured that captivating gaze, revealing the facial contours that she had previously overlooked. The light golden sunlight cast upon him outlined graceful and soft lines.
"It doesn't hurt anymore." Yun Duan paused for a moment, inadvertently standing up and looking down at her from a height: "What happened to your face? Were you also hurt by a fish?"
"Do not indulge in fanciful thoughts," Yunduan interrupted her in a timely manner. "Before you have a comprehensive understanding of your surroundings, do not make hasty conclusions. Such actions will only add psychological pressure on yourself without any benefit. Instead, you should think more about how we can survive!"
Upon thinking of this, she involuntarily felt a sense of panic, running wildly along the shore for a while, yet still seeing no signs of life. Instead, she ended up sweating profusely and felt a growing thirst.
Do not be afraid, it is me
I thought you had been eaten by a fish!" Yun Duan glanced at her, casually tearing off a small piece of grass, chewing as he said, "That fish was really violent, it almost knocked me out. Even the light on my life jacket was extinguished. When I swam to the surface, both you and the fish were gone. I searched the nearby water for a long time but couldn't find either of you, so I had to leave. When I heard you shout just now, I thought I had encountered a ghost.
It was absolutely dazzling! Charlotte was both flustered and frightened, rubbing her eyes while trying to reassure herself. However, at that moment, a feather floated down from the sky, gently swirling and landing right at her feet, making it impossible for her to deliberately ignore it
Before him lay a lake, filled with water that could quench his thirst. However, recalling the corpse he had seen the previous night, Charlotte lacked the courage to drink. Instead, he resorted to breaking off some grass stems, placing them in his mouth to suck and chew. The grass juice had a slight bitterness and an unpleasant taste, but it was better than nothing
Neither of the two spoke, the sun had risen to mid-sky, and the surroundings were very quiet, with the air carrying the unique dryness of summer and a hint of the sweet and fishy scent of lake grass. The clouds gradually softened in color, becoming serene and comfortable. Looking at the face before him, Charlotte's previously tense emotions suddenly relaxed. If it were not for the adversity they faced, lying side by side in the grass, watching the clouds roll by in the sky, and chatting about trivial matters, they could have spent a pleasant and leisurely summer afternoon.
Under normal circumstances, it should be evening now, but—" Yun Duan looked up at the blazing sun in the sky, pausing in silence for a moment: "It has been fourteen hours since the plane crash, and no matter how slow the rescue team is, they should have arrived by now, yet they have not come.
Charlotte cautiously inferred: "Nuclear pollution can cause genetic mutations in organisms; are we not unfortunately..."
"Hmm." Charlotte replied weakly, "I know you are very tired, sleep a little longer, I am also very sleepy..."
Before she could finish speaking, her mouth was suddenly covered by someone
The cloud hesitated for a moment: "Perhaps this is the case, so we cannot just sit here and wait idly"
Xia Luo's heart rose to her throat, and in a reflexive response, she elbowed, kicked, and struggled desperately, trying to break free from the restraints behind her. However, the arm that held her body and covered her mouth felt as if it were made of iron, and no matter how hard she tried, she could not escape. A sense of despair began to wash over her.
Blue? A rather strange color; this is not the vast ocean, there are no undulating waves, no rushing currents, but rather it resembles a gigantic lake. It is hard to imagine that she nearly perished in this dreamlike tranquility last night
Not knowing, she avoided her gaze and turned to look around.
Sitting by the lake for a long time, Charlotte felt discontented and began to shout at the top of her lungs. Her voice echoed through the shimmering waters for quite a while, but no one responded. However, a bird resting in the grass was startled and took flight, which frightened her.
"Why are you covering my mouth?" said Xia Luo, as he could hear his own teeth gently clashing while speaking
Take a deep breath! Take another deep breath!
Charlotte was taken aback by the sight before her, standing there blinking, and only when she felt a pain throughout her body as if it were falling apart did she gradually recall the plane crash she had previously experienced. So, what was this dense and tall grass that resembled a forest before her?
"You haven't died?" Charlotte let out a sigh of relief
So certain?" Charlotte became suspicious: "Have you discovered something?"
"Oh, are you angry!" Yunduan casually tore off a small piece of grass and chewed on it, saying, "Just kidding, don't take it so seriously." He spoke lightly, but there was a hint of fatigue in his expression as he lazily closed his eyes against the sunlight
The person behind her released their grip, but Charlotte's legs were so weak that she could barely stand, her body sliding downward. Had he not promptly supported her again, she would have likely collapsed to the ground and been unable to get back up.
The world is so beautiful, and life is worth cherishing! Regardless of anything else, the most important thing now is to survive
Time passed slowly, and in such a tranquil atmosphere, Charlotte's eyelids grew heavy, gradually becoming drowsy. Just as she was about to doze off, Yunduan suddenly opened his eyes and smiled gently at her, saying, "I accidentally fell asleep."
She reached out her hand, tugging at a blade of grass. The texture felt no different from ordinary grass, only thicker and more resilient. However, the height of the grass was as much as 2 meters, surpassing her own height
The familiar sound entered her ears, and Charlotte's body trembled, instantly falling silent
One meter long! Charlotte widened her eyes, staring at that piece of bird feather. After a full three or four minutes, she finally gasped and shouted: "Helpーー"
"Don't wait any longer, help will not come; we must save ourselves." When Yunduan said this, there was not a hint of jest in her demeanor
So amazing! Could the plane have crashed in Shennongjia? Otherwise, she really cannot think of anywhere along the flight path where such peculiar plants could grow.
Charlotte steadied herself, stood up, and tiptoed around, glancing here and there. However, the tall and robust grass obstructed her view, and she could only see the vast expanse of water behind her, clear and blue like a gemstone.
Mom, I am still not awake, why did you open the curtains again...
Charlotte made an effort to cast aside the complex doubts in her mind, controlling the impulse to scream hysterically and smash things. She slowly exhaled, looking expressionlessly at the clouds, "I am hungry"
Charlotte furrowed her brow, sensing that something was amiss. However, upon further reflection, she could not discern the reason and could only gaze into the distance, hoping to find any signs of a rescue team nearby. Unfortunately, there was not a single soul in sight, let alone a rescue team. She wondered whether the passengers had already been rescued or if they had all perished in the lake before her.
"How could you wish for my early demise, as if the favor of saving my life could be erased with a single stroke?" The person turned to face Charlotte, their warm, sun-like smile carrying a hint of mischief, just like the clouds above.
Unable to find us? Charlotte felt that the situation had become serious
Get up, don't sleep! The cloud supports her precarious sitting posture: "Before it gets dark, we still have many things to do"
"Besides waiting for rescue, what else can we do?" Charlotte reluctantly lifted her eyelids and said, "By the way, how did you manage to escape last night? I thought you had been eaten by the fish."
We crashed in the morning, around ten o'clock. " Yun Dan pointed to the Rolex dive watch on his wrist: " The current time is twelve o'clock at night.
Charlotte did not open her eyes, murmuring to herself as she turned over, but the thin, tough blades of grass cut a gash across her face like a sharp blade. She winced in pain, covering her face as she opened her eyes.
As soon as Charlotte crawled ashore, she collapsed onto the muddy ground, unable to move. Overwhelming fear and exhaustion had nearly rendered her unconscious, leaving her without the strength to think; her mind was a blank. Unbeknownst to her, she closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep. It was not until the intense sunlight pierced through the cover of the grass and shone directly on her face that her eyelashes fluttered slightly, awakening her.
"I won't let you shout! Do you still want to startle something else?"
"Where did the ghost come from in broad daylight?" Recalling the perilous encounter from last night, Xia Luo became a bit more alert. Frowning, he glanced at the long bloodstains on Yunduan's cheeks and neck, and involuntarily reached out to gently touch them: "Were you scratched by a fish tail? Does it hurt much?"
Is this a bird? Its size is simply that of a small helicopter
