Chapter 3, The Path.

Dark Small Medium Large Original Scroll to Bottom

At this moment, the sound of bells rang twelve times within the Supreme Taoist Palace, followed by several bursts of drumbeats. Soon after, the melodious sounds of silk and bamboo instruments filled the air, accompanied by a subtle fragrance in the wind. Two rows of seventy-two Taoist disciples in yellow robes, each holding various ritual implements, descended the long white jade steps in an orderly fashion to respectfully welcome the three true immortals and the other Taoist priests back to the mountain. This grand spectacle left the young man utterly astonished, until a Taoist priest gently supported him at the small of his back, awakening him from his daze, and he then followed the group of priests upward.

The main peak of Xixuan Mountain is named Mogan Peak, with an elevation of 3,500 zhang, covering an area of several dozen li. It rises straight into the sky, extremely steep, and the Taishang Dao De Palace is built here

The Purple Tenuity Master pondered for a moment, then suddenly sighed, his face showing signs of fatigue, and said: "In truth, the secrets of heaven are difficult to fathom. I am merely peering at a leopard through a tube, seeing only a spot, and mistakenly believing I have grasped the heavenly secrets, penetrated the yin and yang, and know the affairs of the past and future. Ha, how arrogant and conceited! If I could truly know the future, how could the teachings of the Dao be in such disarray? I find myself utterly powerless in this situation"

The young man found the sound to be exceptionally melodious and pleasant, and at that moment, all his fears dissipated. He raised his head and quietly glanced around. Apart from the middle-aged Taoist sitting in the center, there were eight individuals on either side: five male Taoists, two men in secular attire, and one female Taoist. Among them, he recognized the three Taoists: Ziyang, Yuxu, and Taiwei. Strangely, the eight Taoists on either side exuded a faint aura of precious light, while the Taoist sitting in the center appeared devoid of any spiritual energy. Strangely, the eight Taoists on either side exuded a faint aura of precious light, while the Taoist sitting in the center appeared devoid of any spiritual energy.

The exterior of the Taichang Palace, presided over by Daoist Ziyang, is majestic and grand. Upon entering, one feels a refined yet unpretentious atmosphere, elegant and transcendent, without ostentation. The courtyard is filled with purple bamboo and palm trees, along with several banana plants. The garden is gentle and warm, with soft water creating ripples, presenting a scene reminiscent of the South China Sea. As Ji Ruocheng entered the main hall, he saw a kind-faced old Daoist in the center, who was none other than the Ziyang True Man. He was extremely perceptive and immediately bowed down, addressing him as an immortal.

Upon hearing this, Master Yu Xuan was greatly enraged and coldly said: "May I ask, Mr. Jing Xiao, if that is the case, does your lineage not have a total of twenty-six female disciples? Is that not quite inappropriate?"

Having spoken, Master Ziwei's expression turned melancholic as he waved his hand and entered the rear hall

The young man traveled along with the crowd, soaring through the clouds and riding the winds, having already witnessed the grandeur of mountains and rivers. Although it had only been a few short days, his perspective and knowledge had greatly changed compared to before. Yet at this moment, standing on Mount Mogan, he remained rooted to the spot.

The Purple Tenuity Master smiled faintly and indicated, "Yuxuan, you might as well try striking it with two swords."

The Purple Tenuity Master said with a gentle expression: "Ruo Chen, could you show me the blue stone around your neck?"

Ziyang Zhenren chuckled lightly, calmly accepting eight resounding bows from him. Then, without any further movement, a gentle yet powerful force lifted Ji Ruocheng, placing him in front of himself

The Daoist Yunfeng immediately said: "The true person is wise."

In Ji Ruochen's heart, administering drugs to incapacitate the fat sheep was as routine as drawing water and sweeping the floor, completely unaware of any moral transgressions involved

At this moment, Ji Ruocheng had already dressed up anew, looking handsome and carefree, quite charming to others

This vast square is surprisingly suspended above the cliff, and it is unclear what supports it. However, the young man has encountered too many奇事仙迹 along his journey, so this does not cause him to lose his composure.

If Ji Ruochen were still at the Dragon Gate Inn, he would never have imagined that such a magnificent and transcendent place existed in the world. At this moment, he certainly knew that these true practitioners were not actual deities, but in terms of supernatural powers, the deities he could conceive of were no more than this.

The Purple Tenuity Master pondered for a moment and said, "Since it is so, I shall give you a name. Although your previous existence is as profound as the sea, you are now, after all, in the cycle of mundane life. The Great Way is vast, and all beings are like dust, so I shall name you Ruocheng. I hope that when you attain enlightenment in the future, you will not forget that you once descended into the mortal realm."

At this moment, in the center of the hall of morality, there sat a middle-aged Taoist priest. He had a pair of phoenix eyes, and his complexion appeared radiant. His plain blue robe was unremarkable, lacking any patterns or embellishments, and even at his waist, there was not a single jade pendant. On either side of him sat four true practitioners, while in the center of the hall knelt the young man.

Before the words of Master Yuxuan had finished, Zhang Jingxiao interjected: "Master Yuxuan, your statement is not appropriate. In your lineage, there are many female disciples, and I see that Ji Ruocheng has a charming appearance. When he grows up, it may lead to some complications..."

Having spoken, the Ziyang True Person slowly formed a hand seal, then with a wave of his large sleeve, a talisman carved from white jade floated out and adhered to the boy's forehead. The jade talisman emitted a gentle glow, which then vanished into the boy's forehead. The boy immediately felt a warm current spreading throughout his body from his forehead, an indescribable sense of comfort and benefit, and he no longer felt the piercing gaze of the cloud-dispersing evil beast.

Ji Ruocheng felt a slight chill in his heart and said, "I do not know where it came from; I only know that it has been hanging since I became aware of myself."

The Ziyang True Person originally thought that the sect leader would take some time after emerging from seclusion to manage the affairs of the sect. With the prestige of the Ziwai True Person, the long-standing grievances and accumulated issues among the seven branches might be resolved. However, he never expected that the sect leader would soon enter seclusion again just a few days later. In such a short time, how could he clarify thirty years of sect affairs? Thus, the Ziyang True Person was taken aback and hurriedly said: "But..." In such a short time, how could he clarify thirty years of sect affairs? Thus, the Ziyang True Person was taken aback and hurriedly said: "But..."

The three individuals observed his astute handling of matters and his appropriate and clever responses, which left them quite satisfied. Setting aside the background and origins of this young man, based solely on his exceptional character and qualities, he is indeed worthy of being counted among the ranks of moral teachings.

The Purple Tenuity Master smiled and said, "You all should know that these celestial objects possess spiritual essence and will naturally recognize their master. Therefore, Ji Ruocheng must be a banished immortal, and this point is beyond doubt. Now it is time to determine which lineage he should be placed in."

Ji Ruocheng nodded in agreement, yet remained standing in place, hesitating for a long time before finally saying softly: "Master, I still have one matter to discuss... Although Daoist Yunfeng indeed provided me with three volumes of moral regulations, I... I can only recognize four or five characters out of the ten in the text..."

The Ziwai Real Person pondered for a moment and said, "What Junior Brother Jingxiao said does hold some truth. However, the workings of heaven are difficult to predict, and it is not surprising that we, as mere mortals, cannot recognize true immortals. Perhaps this way, everyone can alleviate some of the doubts in your hearts." After speaking, there was no visible action from the Ziwai Real Person, and at the opening of the palace door, two young Taoist attendants brought Ji Ruocheng inside.

When the various Daoist texts describe the celestial realms, they often extol: "Houses of gold, beds of jade, dark smoke flowing, and red rays entwined." However, on this journey, the Taishang Daode Palace, in the eyes of the youth, is indeed a fairyland. Here, the tiles are made of glazed tiles, the eaves of purple gold, the ground is paved with white jade, and the water pavilions are shrouded in mist. There are various unknown strange trees and exotic flowers, as well as numerous rare birds and beasts moving gracefully. Occasionally, Daoist practitioners can be seen walking by. They leave trails of clear smoke at their feet, appearing to stroll leisurely, yet each step they take covers several zhang.

Among the eight true immortals, seven displayed angry expressions, glaring at each other, while only Ziyang Zhenren wore a smile, completely uninvolved in the quarrel among the other immortals. However, his smile appeared somewhat awkward.

At this moment, a middle-aged scholar in the seat coughed and respectfully said: "Master Ziwei, I have a matter I am uncertain whether to mention or not. Just now, I observed that the young man possesses quite good innate qualities, and he seems to have some intelligence, with a hint of celestial aura about him. However, in terms of my understanding as a disciple of the Daoist sect, he is merely of above-average quality. This does not truly align with the essence of a transcendent being. Moreover, he is not particularly young; given such qualifications, if he were to attain enlightenment and ascend, I find it truly hard to believe."

The Ziyang Master pondered for a moment and said: "You originally did not recognize any characters, which I had overlooked. Very well, from now on, you shall spend one hour each evening studying reading and writing with the newly selected boys from various places this year. You may go now; everything will be arranged for you by Daoist Master Yunfeng."

Since Ji Ruocheng has been confirmed to be a fallen immortal, and all the true immortals are seekers of the Dao, how could they easily let go of such a rare treasure sought after for centuries? Moreover, once Ji Ruocheng joins any particular lineage, that lineage is destined to produce an ascended immortal, which is certainly not an opportunity that can be sought after easily

For a moment, the great hall was as silent as the ancient times

The only flaw is that the vegetarian meal in the Supreme Moral Palace lacks flavor; to use a newly learned term, it is filled with craftsmanship but lacks inspiration. When compared to the meat buns and bone soup made by the innkeeper's wife, the difference is truly like that between heaven and earth

As the youth glanced around, he suddenly felt as if those malevolent beasts were coming to life, all turning their heads to look at him. Countless gazes, each with a different nature, pierced through him like sharp arrows. In that moment, he felt an emptiness in his chest, an indescribable discomfort, and he could only wish to spit out a mouthful of blood

The Ziyang True Man remarked, "I had almost forgotten that you are still a flesh-and-blood being. Moreover, your past transgressions are too severe; these sinister and malevolent creatures will certainly not allow you to enter the mountain gate."

The atmosphere in the grand hall grew increasingly tense

Upon hearing these words, Ziyang Zhenren showed a look of shame and said, "Since the time the Master of the Teachings entered seclusion, I have been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the sect. For thirty years, I have failed to bring any improvement to our sect, and I must admit that it is due to my inadequate supervision, which has betrayed the Master's heavy trust."

Ji Ruocheng was taken aback and immediately knelt down, replying: "Since I can remember, I have been wandering aimlessly until I arrived at the Longmen Inn beyond the pass, where the innkeeper took me in. Over the years, I have always remembered the kindness of the innkeeper and his wife for taking me in, and I have devoted myself to my work, never once disobeying my elders"

After Ji Ruocheng left, the great hall fell into silence for a moment, with the leaders of the eight veins not uttering a word, waiting for the instructions of the Ziwai Real Person. The atmosphere in the hall suddenly became somewhat subtle.

The leader stands on the righteous path, looking down upon all others? The Ziwai True Person let out a sound and said: "What significance does this hold for my Daoist sect? Can this truly resolve the conflicts among the seven True Persons? Fortunately, although the seven True Persons have been in conflict for decades, their actions still have limits, and they have not yet crossed the sect's rules, thus tarnishing the reputation of my Daoist sect. " Then, the Ziwai True Person's tone grew serious, and he continued: "Brother Ziyang, this time I have unraveled the secrets of heaven and seized the celestial being back to the sect, which has already hindered my cultivation significantly. In a few days, I will need to enter seclusion again, and the affairs of the sect will once again require your careful management. "

After Ji Ruocheng expressed his gratitude to Master Ziyang, he was led out by a young disciple. Although he was not yet fifteen years old, since Master Ziyang stated that he was eighteen, he accepted it as such and would not be foolish enough to argue. However, the last few words of advice from Master Ziyang were clearly intended for him, and he naturally etched every word into his heart.

Originally, all the esteemed individuals were humble people, but this matter is indeed of great significance. Once the discussion began, the esteemed individuals immediately started to argue, and even the laymen Zhang Jingxiao and Gu Shouzhen became involved. In an instant, there was a cacophony of voices, creating quite a lively scene

The area surrounding Xixuan Mountain is fraught with countless natural dangers, and numerous spiritual beasts and exotic birds inhabit this region. It is said that there are also some ancient mythical beasts hidden here. These creatures are unpredictable in their movements, and wherever they pass, even highly skilled practitioners must retreat. After all, human strength has its limits; these ancient mythical beasts have existed for thousands of years, possessing profound abilities that ordinary alchemists and cultivators cannot withstand.

All of these are merely legends, lacking any substantial evidence, and are simply topics of conversation among merchants and common folk during their leisure time. Many of these tales are filled with exaggerations and inaccuracies, and thus do not warrant deep investigation. As for whether the location of the Taishang Daode Palace of the Daode Sect on Xixuan Mountain is indeed the Xixuan Mountain among the Ten Great Caves of Immortals mentioned in legends, this remains unverified. However, it is undeniable that the Xixuan Mountain, where the Taishang Daode Palace of the Daode Sect is situated, continues to be a revered place of cultivation for practitioners.

At this moment, it seems that careful consideration has been given. Master Ziyang spoke up: "Master Ziwei, it may not be quite appropriate for Ji Ruocheng to enter our gates."

Ji Ruocheng agreed and followed the young attendant out along the path. Just as he reached the entrance of the hall, Master Ziyang called out to him again. Ziyang took out a small piece of green stone from his bosom and handed it to Ji Ruocheng, then said: "Ruocheng, you are already eighteen in the secular world, and it is somewhat late for you to enter my Great Way at this time. However, the way of heaven rewards diligence; as long as you are willing to work hard, it is never too late to seek the Dao, no matter when. But since you have only begun your cultivation as an adult, the trials you face will inevitably be greater than those of others. This is also heaven's way of tempering you into a talent, so you must not harbor resentment or fall into despair because of it. From now on, no matter what you encounter, you must always remember that our Dao De Sect is the righteous path of the world, and everything must adhere to reason. Do you understand?"

The Ziyang True Person did not take it to heart; he merely said: "The Master of the Teaching is overly concerned! If it were not for your early insight into the heavenly secrets, how could we have seized the opportunity, prepared thoroughly, and successfully suppressed the members of other sects? The difference in divine abilities is not trivial!"

It was not easy for Master Yuxuan to seize the opportunity to speak among the other masters. He immediately said: "My lineage has the deepest understanding of the 'Taixuan Sanfu Jing', which is most suitable for young disciples to establish their foundation. Therefore, it is most appropriate for Ji Ruocheng to join my Yuxuan lineage..."

At this moment, the green stone had been handed over to the woman of the Jin dynasty. She turned the green stone over and examined it closely for a long time. Suddenly, she exerted a strong grip with three fingers, yet the green stone remained completely motionless. The onlookers were all taken aback. This woman, known as Yu Xuan, possessed profound skills and her grip was as heavy as a thousand pounds, capable of breaking gold and shattering stone. Despite such immense force, the green stone remained entirely unharmed, indicating that it was certainly not an ordinary item

Ziyang Zhenren looked up and down at Ji Ruocheng and slowly said: "Since you are willing to join my Daoist sect, you must naturally abide by our rules. The leader of the Daoist sect prioritizes sincerity and integrity. Let me ask you, in the past few years, how many acts of defiance against your elders have you committed?"

The Purple Micro Master shook his head, his expression turning serious as he earnestly advised: "No matter what, Senior Brother, you must be cautious in your actions from now on and protect Ji Ruocheng. Now that Ji Ruocheng's identity has been revealed, regardless of whether it is the righteous or the demonic path, those who know he is a fallen immortal will undoubtedly resort to any means to seize him. Perhaps even some ancient beings who have not appeared for centuries will intervene. In the future, our Daode Sect may face continuous troubles. However, how can the three-thousand-year legacy of our Daode Sect be destroyed by our hands? Now that Ji Ruocheng's identity has been revealed, regardless of whether it is the righteous or the demonic path, those who know he is a fallen immortal will undoubtedly resort to any means to seize him. Perhaps even some ancient beings who have not appeared for centuries will intervene. In the future, our Daode Sect may face continuous troubles. However, how can the three-thousand-year legacy of our Daode Sect be destroyed by our hands? Senior Brother Ziyang, I gaze towards the western mountains, where amidst the clouds and mist, there is a hint of blood light. I fear that our Daode Sect will likely face challenges that are difficult to manage in the future. At that time, you may call upon me to emerge from seclusion. I am willing to forsake the fruits of ascension and cultivation to eliminate the enemies!"

Ji Ruocheng hurriedly picked up the green stone and presented it to the Ziwai Zhenren. The Ziwai Zhenren then inquired, "Where did you obtain this green stone?"

The Purple Tenuity Master said: "How can this be blamed on you? Which of the other seven veins does not aspire to expand their own sect and suppress others? Are they not after the things that will remain after my cultivation reaches perfection? How could you possibly suppress them? If they were not so obsessed with this, given their qualifications, their cultivation would be far beyond this level?"

A group of people swiftly entered the mountain gate, and the disciples of the various sects dispersed. The three true masters personally took the young boy and soared into the air, heading towards the Hall of Virtue at the highest point of Mount Mogan. The Hall of Supreme Virtue has strict regulations; aside from the leaders of each sect and a few esteemed elders, no one is allowed to fly within the palace. In fact, even without such rules, one cannot fly within the palace without sufficient cultivation. The Hall of Supreme Virtue is vast, and it is further fortified by the essence of heaven and earth, creating a formidable array with numerous restrictions, which greatly diminishes the effectiveness of all Daoist techniques. Therefore, even elders with slightly lower cultivation levels would find themselves powerless to fly in violation of the rules.

After Ji Ruocheng left, Daoist Yunfeng, who had been standing silently behind Ziyang Zhenren, said: "Ziyang Zhenren, Ji Ruocheng is already eighteen years old, but the oldest disciple who entered the foundational studies with him is no more than twelve. At that time, he may find himself in an awkward position. Moreover, you have arranged for him to study in the Taishang Daode Palace, where there are many arrogant disciples from the Seven Veins. They tend to be somewhat overbearing when they have nothing to do, and now seeing that Ruocheng has above-average talent and is so highly regarded by the esteemed masters, unaware that he is a fallen immortal, they may cause trouble. Therefore, this arrangement, is it not somewhat inappropriate?

The next day, as the sky brightened, Ji Ruocheng was led by a young attendant towards the Taichang Palace, where the Ziyang True Man resided. For him, each step taken and every scene encountered felt like a dream. The Taichang Palace, with its grandiose presence, nestled among the mountains and trees, resembled a paradise, akin to a celestial realm, and calling it a fairyland is by no means an exaggeration

Surrounding Mount Mogan, twelve peaks stand like stars encircling the moon, embodying the number of heaven and earth. The nine disciples of the Xixuan Mountain reside among the nine peaks, and only those who have reached a certain level of cultivation can move to the Taishang Daode Palace to study the Daoist scriptures.

Originally, the various true immortals were merely boasting about themselves, but the exchanges between the two true immortals, Jing Xiao and Yu Xuan, opened the door to mutual criticism. In an instant, the Hall of Morality was filled with the sound of thunder and flashes of lightning, as the true immortals debated passionately, striving with all their might to prove that the teachings of other sects were flawed, and that only their own lineage was most suitable for instructing the exiled immortals. The situation rapidly escalated, and just as the true immortals were about to engage in a battle of spells at the mountain gate to determine superiority, the Ziwai True Immortal could no longer contain himself. He heavily knocked on the zitan wood table, and only then did the hall gradually quiet down.

However, all the esteemed individuals are people of refinement and grace. Although they are eager to incorporate Ji Ruocheng into their lineage, they do not wish to behave like common folk, boasting and selling themselves, thus losing their dignity. Therefore, all the esteemed individuals remain silent, merely exchanging glances with one another.

Ziyang Zhenren quickly agreed

Ziyang Zhenren stared at Ji Ruocheng and let out a heavy snort from his nose. This snort was like a thunderclap, exploding in Ji Ruocheng's ears, leaving him dizzy and disoriented. Ji Ruocheng, feeling panicked, trembled as he spoke: "Zhenren, no, Immortal! On the morning you arrived at the Longmen Inn, I truly could not resist the temptation, and I harbored greedy thoughts. I secretly ate three freshly steamed buns and a bowl of bone soup. It was not because I was hungry, but rather, it was just that Madam's cooking was simply too delicious. Aside from that, I have not disobeyed my elders, not at all!"

The Master Ziwei stroked his beard and said: "This time, my three senior brothers, Ziyang, Yuxu, and Taiwei, have brought back Ji Ruocheng, achieving a significant merit. At this moment, I will not conceal from you all that during my closed-door meditation, I discerned the heavenly secrets and learned that an immortal has been cast down to the mortal realm. In this era of tribulation, the time has come for him to return to the celestial realm. Therefore, I have taken the liberty to request the three esteemed immortals to retrieve Ji Ruocheng, even at the risk of offending various sects in the Dao. However, there is still a major issue at hand, which is to determine to which lineage Ji Ruocheng should belong. You need not hold back; feel free to express your thoughts openly."

Within the grand hall, there was once again a profound silence, and the atmosphere had become considerably more oppressive than before. The factional disputes within the Daoist sect began over a thousand years ago, and can be described as a long-standing ailment that has long since penetrated to the marrow. How could a few individuals, with only decades of effort, hope to reverse the situation

The disciples of the Purple Micro True Man lineage are few and their cultivation is not remarkable, primarily because he has never had a personal disciple and has been in seclusion for thirty years. Originally, with the descent of the celestial being, it was only natural for him to enter the gates of the Purple Micro True Man. Although this lineage has declined, it has produced two ascended true immortals in succession, which not only firmly suppresses the other eight sects of the Moral Sect but is also an unprecedented event among all cultivation factions. However, the Purple Micro True Man unexpectedly relinquished this great opportunity, leaving the true immortals present astonished.

The Taoist priest sitting upright in the center is the current leader of the Dao De Sect, Master Ziwei. He carefully examined the young man for a moment before asking, "What is your name?"

Upon hearing this, Yu Xuan extended her right hand and grasped the air, revealing a three-foot-long ancient sword of shimmering light between her fingers. With a clear shout, she swung the sword down at the青石. The blade collided with the青石, producing a melodious sound akin to the striking of metal against stone, which was exceptionally pleasant to the ears. However, the青石 remained intact, unblemished and flawless. The other immortals present were taken aback, their expressions changing dramatically in shock. Yu Xuan had not only employed true power in her strike, but her clear shout also invoked a spell, amplifying the might of her slash, a force capable of cleaving mountains and splitting rivers, yet it still could not harm this small青石! From this alone, it was evident that this青石 was not an ordinary object of the mortal realm.

The Purple Micro Real Person looked around and suddenly sighed, saying: "All of you fellow practitioners have valid points. Ji Ruocheng can be appropriately placed in any lineage, yet it is also not suitable. However, assisting the immortal in transcending and returning to the celestial realm is of utmost importance to our Daoist sect, and it must not be taken lightly. Therefore, let Ji Ruocheng temporarily belong to the lineage of the Purple Yang Real Person, while the other lineages will have two days each month to instruct him. After five years, during the sect's major examination, he can then decide for himself which lineage to join."

The Purple Micro Real Person waved his hand and said, "Brother Ziyang, do not push and defer any longer! Among the Eight Meridians Real Persons, you are the oldest and possess the greatest virtue. Only by allowing him to enter your gate can we pause the disputes among the seven Real Persons." After speaking, he let out a long sigh and continued, "Alas, I did not expect that the internal disputes within our Daoist sect would still be so intense. It was the same thirty years ago, and now, thirty years later, upon my return, it remains unchanged. If this continues, how can we proceed?"

The West Xuan Mountain features a unique and extraordinary terrain, steep yet not arid, where even the perilous peaks that rise straight into the sky have clear springs trickling down. Above the mountains, the trees are lush and verdant, with rare flowers and exotic plants visible everywhere. Additionally, mountain springs and waterfalls, along with clear streams and brooks, weave through the landscape. The mountains are shrouded in mist year-round, and at the waist of the peaks and in the valleys, there are countless caves and underground springs that interconnect, their depths unknown.

Along the way, numerous Taoist priests saw the three true immortals flying by and hurriedly paid their respects. However, they secretly marveled at the sight of the young man being escorted by the three true immortals of the Moral Sect.

The Ziyang True Man pondered for a moment and then spoke: "The return of the Master of Teachings this time is a significant event for our entire righteous path. With you overseeing the situation and having the Exiled Immortal in hand, the leader of our Daoist sect will soon stand proudly above all others, and that day is just around the corner"

Before he finished speaking, a real person beside him immediately said: "The swordsmanship of the Jade Void Real Person is indeed formidable, but the Golden Elixir Dao and the Three Pure Ones' righteous methods are the true path to ascension. In this regard, my Purple Cloud lineage is still at the forefront."

As soon as he spoke, those who had not seen the real Ji Ruocheng before all nodded slightly, clearly sharing the same doubt

On the sixth day, the three true beings finally arrived at Xixuan Mountain, gently descending upon Mogan Peak

Xixuan Mountain, also known as Sanyuan Jizhen, is said to stretch for three thousand miles, reaching up to the clouds, and is a gathering place for immortals. Thus, its traces are elusive, making it difficult for the world to find. Some say that this place is where the heavenly beings govern, truly a paradise beyond the world, a fairyland on earth. There are further rumors that someone, by a stroke of luck, accidentally entered this realm and encountered an immortal, learning the art of longevity.

Then the middle-aged Taoist spoke, saying: "Do not be afraid, lift your head."

The various ranges of Xixuan Mountain stretch endlessly, covering nearly ten thousand miles in all directions, connecting countless famous mountains and rivers. It is a place where the earth's veins converge and spiritual entities gather. Residing within Xixuan Mountain, it serves as the heart of this convergence.

The Ziwai Real Person smiled and nodded, waved his hand, and the two young attendants took Ji Ruocheng down. After Ji Ruocheng exited the hall, the Ziwai Real Person handed the green stone to the Ziyang Real Person sitting on his right and said: "All esteemed Real Persons, please take a close look and see if there is anything unusual about this green stone."

The place he stood upon was a vast square, paved with bluestone, smooth as a mirror. The square was narrow at the front and wide at the back, shaped like a bird's beak, surrounded by white jade railings. At the pointed edge of the square stood nine massive pillars, their tops ablaze with roaring flames that burned year-round without extinguishing. At the wide end of the square was Mount Mogan, connected by countless white jade steps that ascended upward. Beyond the pointed edge of the square and on both sides, only a hazy mist could be seen; occasionally, a mountain breeze would part the clouds, revealing an unfathomable abyss.

As the youth journeyed along, he witnessed the Taoist priests of the Moral Sect wielding magical instruments, performing celestial spells, and commanding ghostly servants, leaving him astonished and bewildered, as if he were in a dream. Thus, he often took the opportunity, when no one was paying attention, to pinch himself hard from time to time. Such foolish behavior caused him immense pain, yet it also filled him with joy. After several days, his thighs naturally bore countless bruises. The youth's actions, though seemingly silly, were not without reason. Consider the ordinary person; to encounter even one such extraordinary individual in this lifetime would be a blessing accrued over many lifetimes. How remarkable it was that the youth had encountered as many as eighteen at once? It was only natural for him to doubt whether he was dreaming.

Upon hearing these words from the Purple Tenuity True Person, all the True Persons were visibly moved. The Jade Void True Person immediately inquired, "Purple Tenuity Master, are you not going to personally instruct Ji Ruocheng?"

Ji Ruocheng nodded vigorously. Ziyang Zhenren then took out a jade medicine bottle from his bosom and handed it to him, saying: "This bottle contains a spirit-nourishing pill that can alleviate mental fatigue and exhaustion. One pill a day will suffice, and it may be of some use to you."

Before me lies a long staircase made of white jade, measuring fifteen zhang in width and one foot in height. From a distance, each step appears immaculate, radiating a faint glow, with treasures gleaming abundantly. Upon closer inspection, one can discern faintly carved cloud patterns and beast motifs, each step unique in its design. The white jade staircase ascends directly into the vast clouds at the peak. Looking up this path, it stretches endlessly, likely comprising thousands upon thousands of jade steps. Amidst the clouds, a remarkably grand mountain gate and pavilion gradually emerge, topped with purple gold and supported by green jade pillars, standing thirty zhang tall. At each corner of the eaves, eight golden beasts, each differing in shape, are positioned to ward off evil. The mountain gate features a large plaque hanging in the center, with a purple background and golden characters, inscribed with five ancient seal script characters: "Taishang Daode Palace"

The Ziwai Real Person slightly raised his hand, preventing Ziyang from continuing. He paced back and forth in the hall several times, his brows tightly furrowed, revealing a look of confusion, as if he were faced with a difficult decision. After a moment, the Ziwai Real Person stopped in front of the Ziyang Real Person and slowly said: "I just cast a divination, yet I cannot discern the future fate of Ji Ruocheng. Although he is a reincarnated celestial being, he has already become an ordinary person, and I should be able to see through his destiny. Moreover, it is strange that many sects have come to uncover the secrets of heaven and are trying to seize him. According to reason, with the meager abilities of Mr. Shushi and the Seven Saints Mountain sects, how could they possibly foresee the secrets of heaven?"

The entire Taishang Daode Palace is as magnificent as the celestial cities above, yet this Hall of Virtue appears rather shabby, resembling the main hall of an ordinary Daoist temple.

In the end, it was the Jade Void Daoist who could no longer contain his impatience, and he said loudly: "As the one with the deepest cultivation in the Jade Void lineage, it is only fitting that I guide Ji Ruocheng."

Having spoken, the Purple Micro True Person waved his hand, and a young disciple took Ji Ruocheng down to arrange for a nameplate and to collect daily necessities

At this time, the young man at the Longmen Inn was being carried in turns by disciples of the Daoist sect, traveling day and night towards Xuan Mountain in the west. The three true immortals perhaps considered that he was merely a mortal body, unable to endure too much hardship, thus not only did they protect him with magical artifacts, but they also fed him spiritual pills to nourish his energy and ward off the cold, even slowing down the speed of their flight through the air. Every evening at sunset, they would set up camp to rest. As a result, what would normally take the Daoist sect's true immortals just over a day's journey ended up consuming a full five days of time.

The Ziyang Master glanced at Yunfeng, stroked his beard, and smiled, saying: "This is merely a small test. If Chen has spent six years in a black shop selling human meat buns, not knowing how many people he has harmed, do you think he would be unable to handle the seven disciples who are naive and overly proud? What I worry about the most is that he might be captivated by the allure of this flashy world, and no longer be willing to put in the hard work. At that time, even if he possesses the qualities of a celestial being, how could he possibly achieve complete merit?"

The young man, in a moment of confusion, finally replied: "I lost my parents at a young age and only know that my original surname is Ji. I have never had a name. Later, the shopkeeper took me in, but he never gave me a name."

Since the major matter had been settled, Master Qimai then paid his respects and took his leave, returning to his own peak. Only Master Ziyang remained behind

Even the deeply accomplished Master Ziyang was momentarily taken aback upon hearing this. After a prolonged silence lasting nearly half a stick of incense, Master Ziyang finally exhaled a heavy sigh. He forced a wry smile, realizing that the lengthy sermon he had meticulously prepared had completely slipped his mind. He could only instruct, "Yesterday, Daoist Yunfeng has already provided you and me with the moral regulations of our sect. For the next couple of days, focus on memorizing them. Then, Daoist Yunfeng will teach you the morning and evening practices, as well as the proper etiquette for incense offerings and worship. After I meet with the Seven Meridians Masters to discuss your study schedule, I will personally impart to you the introductory lessons of our moral teachings. Currently, the affairs of the sect are quite busy, so the formal initiation ceremony will be postponed for further discussion. Just now, I accepted your eight bows, which can be considered as an acknowledgment from the Master of the Celestial Purple, Ziwai, to take you as a disciple. In the future, refrain from calling out 'immortal' indiscriminately, as it may only serve to invite ridicule."

Even so, the young man was already exhausted, his body feeling weak and sore. However, having faced many hardships since childhood, this little suffering was truly nothing to him. Moreover, he was aware that this opportunity was rare, and he feared missing it; thus, he gritted his teeth and endured any pain, revealing not a trace of fear or reluctance. He did whatever the Taoist priests asked him to do, answered honestly to any questions, and remained silent when no one spoke to him.

Unexpectedly, the seven real persons exchanged glances with one another. Although each time their eyes met, there were often hidden tensions and sparks, they did not oppose Ji Ruocheng entering the gate of the Ziyang Real Person.

Ziyang, Yuxu, and Taiwei had long studied the azure stone worn by Ji Ruocheng. At that moment, they merely took a brief glance before handing it over to the nearby Daoist. The other five Daoists focused intently, eager to glimpse the profound mysteries contained within the azure stone. Given their sharp eyesight, if this stone truly harbored secrets, it would undoubtedly be difficult for them to miss. However, after examining it from various angles, the five Daoists all concluded that it was nothing more than an ordinary stone, easily found anywhere.

As everyone departed, Master Ziwei immediately closed his eyes tightly, revealing a look of fatigue. Master Ziyang also wore a solemn expression, appearing deeply troubled. The two masters sat quietly in the grand hall, remaining silent.
