Prologue: Rain
Amidst the loud shouts of the nurse at the service desk, the young man kicked open the emergency room door and saw his female doctor inside, one hand holding a newspaper and the other holding a cup of tea, looking at him in surprise. He immediately handed over the coat he had been holding.
The young man saw the wind and rain growing increasingly fierce, and with a worried gaze, he looked down at the coat in his arms. He lowered his head, holding the coat even tighter, bending over as he hurried through the torrential downpour. The rain pelted his back and pierced his neck, yet it could inflict no harm on the coat he held. His body was like a warm umbrella, shielding the precious item from all disasters. It protected "it" from all loneliness and coldness, solitude and sorrow. The rain continued to strike his back and penetrate his neck, but it could not harm the coat in his arms. His body was like a warm umbrella, blocking all calamities for the cherished object, shielding "it" from all loneliness and coldness, solitude and sorrow.
The streets have transformed into a world of water. The torrential rain has driven humanity into their small abodes. On the road, men and women who were just moments ago enjoying the enchanting hues of the night are now hurriedly calling to get into one taxi after another. At this moment, the drivers have also realized that this is a golden opportunity bestowed upon them by the heavens to make money; those who once begged others to get in are now learning how to choose their passengers, striving to maximize their own interests.
The young man's face had turned slightly purple from the cold wind and rain, yet he gritted his teeth and ran forward recklessly. Even when encountering a rain shelter, he did not pause to take refuge, rushing past without even a glance. The people under the shelter looked at this reckless young man with great curiosity, as if they were witnessing an incredible creature. They laughed—some with mockery, some with derision, and others with pity, smiling and beckoning him to take shelter from the rain. However, these varied reactions, whether kind or cruel, could not deter the young man's frantic pace, as if he were driven by a force of fate, compelled by a sense of responsibility to continue running.
Summer thunderstorms often arrive with unexpected ferocity. Their power and rage, accompanied by torrential rains akin to mountain floods, rush towards the earth, enveloping the world in a deluge. Rain pours down from the sky, accompanied by rumbling thunder, mercilessly pounding the streets. People dodge and fear it. In the face of this natural force, humanity appears so small, so weak. Within the power of this storm, any element can easily instill panic and dread in people. Especially the torrential rains at night, which deepen their reverence and trap them in fear.
While everyone was desperately seeking shelter from the rain, a young man of about twenty was running wildly in the downpour. The ordinary shirt and * picture * book he wore had long since turned into a rag under the assault of the rain, trembling before the might of nature. The raging cold wind whipped thousands of "silver needles" sharply into the young man's skin, punishing in anger this person who did not understand how to seek forgiveness or evade the "wrath of heaven".
That coat is wrapped around a baby! A baby who seems to be less than a month old, whose eyes can barely open!
Is anyone there! I need emergency help! Hurry! She is not going to make it!
Is it another "she"? Where exactly is that "she"? And why does this young man present the coat in his hand to the doctor?
The young man let out a joyful shout! The merciless cold wind, as if finding a breach, swiftly poured in icy rainwater into his mouth, invading his lungs. A sudden gulp of cold air triggered a violent coughing fit in the young man, yet his steps did not falter; he continued to rush towards his destination, a hospital marked by a glowing red cross that radiated warmth.
However, the anxious expression of the young man did not seem to indicate that he was joking! The summer hospital, which had just been cooled by the air conditioning in the stifling evening breeze, still retained its chill. For a young man soaked to the skin, this was nothing short of torture! Yet, he did not remove his drenched shirt. He quickly scanned the hospital and, upon seeing an emergency room with a faint light shining from within, rushed over without following the procedure to register at the service desk. Some sharp-eyed passersby might notice as the young man brushes past them that he is not merely wearing that shirt; he appears to have a coat as well, and that coat may be quite waterproof. However, the young man is not wearing the coat but is instead holding it tightly in his hands. If someone had even sharper eyes, they might be able to discern that something is wrapped inside that coat.
However, this answer was soon revealed. The female doctor, somewhat puzzled, took the coat from the young man and peered inside. Yet, this glance startled the doctor, who was accustomed to seeing all kinds of patients!
The drivers, laden with a truckload of "wealth," smiled as they activated the fare meters, leisurely gazing through the rearview mirrors at those drenched to the bone by the torrential rain. With a honk of the horn, they sped away, leaving behind a brilliant splash of water.
Doctor! Hurry... Hurry and save her! She is about to give up!
Arrived
"She"? Why is it "she"? Hasn't this young man been alone from the beginning until now? Where did "she" come from?
The rain intensified, as if the heavens themselves were enraged at the audacity of the young man who dared to run wildly and challenge their authority during such a tempest. All the fiercest winds and harshest downpours seemed to converge upon him alone, attempting to thwart his advance.
