Chapter 10: Shadows of the Ghosts (Part 2)
Building 4, Unit 4, Floor 4, the entire floor is dark and filled with the smell of smoke and ash
Bean Sprout and her grandmother sat facing each other, eating in the dark, and no one spoke again
Suddenly, a voice came from the chair opposite, hoarse and deep: "Has she finished eating?"
I see it as a case of cleverness backfiring! The elderly voice from across the way carried a hint of anger. After she finished speaking, she coughed several times, and then added, or perhaps it is a fleeting moment of brilliance
The wind blows, the flames dance, and the ashes of the burnt joss paper begin to swirl.
With a loud bang, she bumped her head again.
With a loud bang, she bumped her head again.
The bean sprout's face turned pale as she lowered her head and placed a piece of meat into the bowl across from her, her tone becoming much gentler: "Let's eat, Grandma"
The room is silent and still
Grandpa Bed..." Qu Si choked, "Please, let me go.
The crimson bed quietly rests in the corner against the wall, with two red ropes binding its two legs, while the other two ropes have already broken. One of the ropes is hanging in mid-air, swaying in the wind, as if someone is holding the end of the rope and shaking it.
Wuwuwuwuwuwu
Then she took a small bowl, filled it with some food, and hurried upstairs. After reaching the upper floor, she pushed open her mother's room, where a few low voices of conversation could be heard. Suddenly, a loud 'bang!' echoed from the room, as if a bowl had been dropped on the floor, followed by the sound of sobbing.
The oil lamp was placed on the dining table, swaying left and right, illuminating the tender face of the bean sprout, whose cheeks were flushed, seemingly a bit excited
Come up!
After a long while, Douya lit the candle, got up to clean the bowls and chopsticks, and then went upstairs
The wind howled mournfully, seemingly in harmony with Qu Si's cries.
The window is open, and the wind is blowing through the black curtains, producing a rustling sound
After a long while, the old woman walked to the fork in the road to the east, placed the burnt paper and the remaining ghost money from her flower basket on the ground, used her frail body to shield against the wind, and then ignited the paper money
With a loud bang, her head fell to the ground, hitting it with a resounding thud
"Grandpa Bed..." Qu Si pressed her face against the foot of the bed, wrapping her arms around it, "I know I was wrong, I know I shouldn't have slept on you... I am guilty... I am extremely sinful... I deserve to die... I deserve to be cut into a thousand pieces..."
There was no sound on the sofa, and the cigarette butt had not lit up again. The bean sprout tilted its neck slightly and stepped towards the kitchen. When it reached beside the sofa, it didn't even glance at it and walked straight past.
Qu Si clung to the bedpost, her body slumped to the ground, emitting a series of sorrowful cries.
In the room, an oil lamp is lit, and the candlelight flickers from side to side
Her gaze gradually became dull and vacant. After a long while, she curled up and crawled to the foot of the bed, holding onto the bedpost, inching her body towards the large bed.
The living room is shrouded in darkness
The deep voice sounded again, and this time, Qu Si heard it clearly; the voice was coming from the large bed
Several passersby approached from a distance and, upon seeing this situation, hurriedly changed their direction
On the sofa sits an old woman, dressed in a grayish-white long gown. Her wrinkled, aged face flickers in the wavering candlelight, appearing somewhat somber.
The night grew deeper, the wind grew stronger, and the old woman's grayish-white long gown danced in the wind, producing a rustling sound
Qu Si let out a scream and fell to the ground, gazing in terror at the large crimson bed.
Grandfather Bed..." Qu Si trembled, "Even if you do not spare me, please spare my daughter, she is still young... she does not understand anything..."
The sound of the bean sprouts trembles, resembling a worm that has just crawled out from the ground, twisting and shaking.
Hmph! The person across from me let out a cold snort and then said, "You are still young, there are many things you do not understand, but you will come to realize them in the future"
The old woman's low humming and sobbing were also mingled with the sound of the wind, creating an exceptionally terrifying atmosphere
In room 404, the balcony window is open, and the wind is continuously blowing in from outside, causing the curtains to flutter and make a rustling sound. The surroundings appear hazy, as if many things are drifting about.
Qu Si trembled all over, as if sifting chaff.
There is no one on the bed, and the quilt is neatly folded.
A red light dot lit up, and the old woman was smoking
Grandma! The bean sprouts widened their eyes and said, "Mom is already like this, and you still can't let go!"
Come up!
After a long while, she brought the dishes out from the kitchen and placed them on the dining table
After a long while, Douya came out, slowly descended the stairs, and sat down at the dining table
With a creak, the bathroom door was pushed open, and a small girl stood outside the door, wiping her hands on her waist. She gazed into the dark corner of the sofa, her eyes sparkling in the darkness as she stared at the sofa for a long time
Grandma, it is time to eat
The howling wind swept through, carrying the paper money of the dead as it danced in the air, darting about chaotically, resembling numerous ghosts chasing these paper offerings in the sky
The smoke swirls
In the master bedroom upstairs, it was equally dark, with only a faint green glow emanating from an unknown source, illuminating the room and casting a greenish hue throughout the entire space
Hooray!
From the flower bushes by the roadside, a figure emerged, dressed in all black, leaning on a black umbrella, wearing a pair of sunglasses, and carrying a metal box. Throughout, he was fixated on the every move of the old woman
Suddenly, a deep voice resounded, as if it came from the depths of the earth or from the vast sky above
The bean sprout shook the empty bowl and said, "It seems that the treatment from that soul psychologist yesterday was effective"
The candle flickered a few times, and finally could not withstand the disturbance of the strong wind, extinguishing itself
Qu Si knelt before the bed, bending her waist.
The old woman lifted her head, and through her scattered hair, one could see her pair of sorrowful eyes. She fixed her gaze on the fluttering paper money, emitting a muffled groan from her throat, as if she were praying for something
The old woman finished burning the paper money, carried her basket, and returned to Building 4, Unit 4
