Chapter 2, A Critical Moment

Lin Feng did not retract his legs, but instead used some of the force from pulling the iron gate with his hands to twist the monster's head, gradually pulling it away from the iron gate

Hurry, let's go upstairs, be careful!

Looking at the figure that appeared before him, Lin Feng vaguely felt a sense of familiarity. Even though the appearance of this figure had changed significantly, he still recognized it as Uncle Fu, the tenant living on the fifth floor

Huffing and puffing, Lin Feng stood up, never having imagined that he would be so close to death.

Lin Feng took a breath and hurriedly said to Lin Qingya, as he did not want the girl who saved him to be in danger; otherwise, he would never forgive himself. However, before he could finish speaking, the monster crawled up from the ground again, and this time its target was no longer Lin Feng, but rather Lin Qingya, who was closer. This instinctively made Lin Feng shout for Lin Qingya to be careful, and his body reacted by charging forward.

At last, after surfacing once more, Lin Feng saw his home not far away, which compelled him to swim laboriously toward the riverbank

However, the will to survive still dominated Lin Feng's endurance. Even if the monstrous strength pressing down on him was greater than his own, he fought back with all his might. He did not want to be torn apart by the monster before him; he could not bear the thought of such a scene happening to him. With both hands desperately holding onto the monster's neck, he kicked fiercely with his legs, hoping to inflict pain and force the monster to release its grip.

Bang

Fortunately, at the critical moment, Lin Feng rushed to the side of the monster and forcefully knocked it down to the ground

The monster formed by Fu Bo, upon seeing Lin Feng and his companion, seemed to perceive them as delectable prey. It opened its mouth and emitted a roar reminiscent of a wild beast, with yellow liquid dripping from the corners of its mouth, clearly intensifying. It then lunged at Lin Feng with its gaping maw.

Qingya, open the door quickly, I am here to hold them off

Lin Feng dashed forward, entering and getting closer; the outline of the house had completely emerged before him

What left Lin Feng feeling desperate was that the monster seemed to have no sense of pain at all, disregarding his attacks, and instead bringing its mouth closer and closer to his neck. A sense of impending exhaustion surged through Lin Feng's hands, which were desperately resisting, causing his heart to sink into an abyss

At that moment, a person who had been rolling on the ground suddenly stood up without any warning, blocking Lin Feng's path and startling him.

At this critical moment, Lin Feng, whose mind was still in a semi-frozen state, was undoubtedly sluggish, his body continuing to surge forward, only thinking about quickly returning home to shut the door and hide for a while

The monster's speed was evidently not slow; it was even faster than that of an ordinary person. In the mere blink of an eye, it closed the several meters of distance between the two and charged right in front of Lin Feng

Along the way, Lin Feng frequently saw people rolling on the ground in agony, clutching their heads and screaming hoarsely, as if enduring excruciating pain. Among them were a few familiar figures he could not name, but whom he had encountered several times before

Lin Feng gritted his teeth with great effort, his hands firmly pressing against the man's neck, veins bulging in his hands, determined not to let the man succeed. However, when his eyes clearly discerned the man's appearance, a wave of panic surged within him, and a sense of helplessness flooded over his entire body

Lin Feng led Lin Qingya, cautiously making their way up the stairs, without making a sound. Occasionally, they heard chilling screams and unsettling chewing noises coming from a room filled with illustrations and books. Fortunately, the doors on the third floor ahead were tightly shut, making it difficult for any monsters to emerge at least for the time being

The one pressing down on Lin Feng was an elderly man with abnormally dry skin, his eyes a blood-red hue without pupils. His facial expression was wooden and vacant, yet his ears were long and slender like those of a sprite. Two sharp, snow-white fangs protruded from the corners of his mouth, oozing drops of an unknown yellow liquid, resembling a monster. When he opened his gaping maw, the sight within was even more horrifying.

Just the sight of this image can make one feel intimidated even before the battle begins, let alone being so close to Lin Feng. He could only feel his hands and feet growing somewhat weak.

What kind of scene was that, with its mouth filled with sharp teeth crisscrossing like those of a great white shark, reminding Lin Feng of the predator? The tongue was even more bizarre, splitting into three parts, with a disgusting yellow liquid slowly oozing from it

After just a few steps, they arrived at the entrance. Hastily taking out the key to unlock the outer iron gate, Lin Feng led Lin Qingya inside.

However, when Lin Feng saw the fearful expression on Lin Qingya's face, a surge of courage welled up within him. He immediately shielded Lin Qingya behind him and handed the key in his hand to her

At this moment, Lin Qingya also regained consciousness and came to Lin Feng's side to help pull with all her strength, which allowed Lin Feng to conserve some of his energy.

The force of the charge caused Lin Feng to crash heavily into that person, knocking them down to the ground as if they were a cushion.

Roar

Unfortunately, just as Lin Feng and Lin Qingya arrived outside their room on the fourth floor, a figure suddenly emerged from the corridor leading to the fifth floor, startling both Lin Feng and Lin Qingya, causing their legs to weaken and Lin Feng's right hand, gripping the steel pipe, to tremble imperceptibly.

Unexpectedly, this blow actually had an effect; the monster seemed to be in a dazed state. Just as it was about to get close to Lin Feng's head, it suddenly lost its strength, allowing Lin Feng to push the monster away from himself.

Just as Lin Feng was about to close the door immediately, the monster charged again, its head getting stuck right in the middle of the iron sliding door, while its hands gripped both sides of the door, attempting to use its greater strength to pull the door open against Lin Feng.

The speaker is a girl holding a wooden stick in both hands, her delicate and fair face filled with panic. Her slightly trembling figure, with a prominent front and a raised back, belongs to Lin Qingya, Lin Feng's neighbor who grew up together with him, and also his university classmate

This person's appearance can no longer be described as human; rather, it is that of a genuine monster

"Go!" Without waiting for Lin Qingya to speak, Lin Feng grabbed her slender, delicate hand and ran towards his home with her.

It's alright, Qingya, you should hurry back now! This place is truly too dangerous, be careful.

Just as Lin Feng was about to pass by that person, the individual swiftly turned around, blocking Lin Feng's path, and opened his mouth to bite at Lin Feng.

A foul and putrid odor rushed towards Lin Feng, who swung the steel pipe down heavily. Since this was an instinctive reaction of his body, he was able to exert his normal level of strength.

In the next moment, Lin Feng's right leg came crashing down on the monster's face. He did not aim for the monster's mouth, as he was not wearing shoes on his feet, and he certainly did not want to injure himself.

As Lin Feng silently mourned his impending tragic fate, a thick wooden stick struck heavily against the back of the creature's head.

Lin Feng paused for a moment, fully aware of the severity of the disaster. For the sake of his life, he gritted his teeth and ran wildly once more. After all, if he couldn't even save his own life, how could he care for others? He was not the type to be a do-gooder. Moreover, he noticed that the enormous giant insects in the distance seemed to have no interest in the people rolling on the ground, as if those on the ground were merely their 'kind'.

With Lin Qingya's assistance, Lin Feng was able to employ other means. He pulled with both hands while bending his right leg, delivering a powerful kick.

Clambering out of the water with a slight stagger, the sensation of cramping in his legs made his expression appear somewhat grim. A gust of cold wind swept by, causing Lin Feng to sneeze several times in succession, his teeth chattering uncontrollably, producing a grinding sound. His hands were tightly wrapped around his body, and he was covered in goosebumps. Nevertheless, he endured the surging chill and, barefoot, struggled to make his way down the path, quickly running towards home

As he passed a corner, he casually picked up two discarded steel pipes and cautiously made his way to the fourth floor where he lived

Lin Feng now feels regret in his heart. Although the time that just passed was not long, he has already discerned some clues from the changes in the monster. This kind of monster was formed precisely because of that black worm drilling into its head. If he had known that such a day would come, he would not have rented out most of the rooms. If he is not careful, it could truly be fatal. God knows whether his tenants might also turn into monsters like those outside

The steel pipe's point of impact was the monster's chilling mouth. It was only when it collided with the interlaced fangs that Lin Feng realized the hardness of these fangs far exceeded his expectations. Sparks flew at the point of collision, and the fangs showed no signs of damage, while the steel pipe bore several bite marks. Nevertheless, the strength in his hands managed to halt the monster's forward momentum. Due to the peculiar shape of the fangs, the steel pipe became lodged between the monster's teeth. Lin Feng could only lean against the wall, gripping the steel pipe tightly with both hands to firmly brace against the monster's mouth. Yet, despite this, the strength in his hands still managed to stop the monster's forward motion. The strange shape of the fangs caused the steel pipe to become stuck in the monster's teeth, leaving Lin Feng with no choice but to lean against the wall, gripping the steel pipe tightly with both hands to hold back the monster's mouth.

Without waiting for Lin Feng to react, the person rolled over and pinned Lin Feng beneath him, opening his gaping mouth to continue biting at Lin Feng. His claws gripped Lin Feng's body with all their might, leaving deep gashes that caused him immense pain

In a critical moment, Lin Feng retracted his right leg, and the iron door closed and locked inwards at the next instant

Watching the monster frantically tugging at the iron door outside, Lin Feng pulled Lin Qingya and headed upstairs

Lin Feng, are you alright

When Lin Feng clearly saw that figure, his pupils involuntarily contracted, and his heart was filled with fear, feeling an overwhelming chill inside.

In this critical moment, the body's instinctive reaction caused Lin Feng's pace to change. He wanted to halt his advance, but due to the short distance, he could not stop at all. Nevertheless, his hands instinctively grasped the person's neck, holding it tightly.

Having just turned her back to the monster, Lin Qingya only now managed to see the monster's disgusting face clearly, leaving her stunned with fear. After all, she was merely a girl who had never seen the world. As she stepped back, the wooden stick in her hand fell to the ground, and fear enveloped her body and mind, causing her to tremble uncontrollably

Lin Feng exerted all his strength to pull towards the center, the veins on his hands bulging as he wrestled with the monster, while the iron door emitted a grating, piercing sound of friction.

Uncle Fu
