Chapter Nine, The First Night in the Dormitory
I found it a bit strange; who could be inside? I cautiously walked over, but it was very dark, and I couldn't see anything. I didn't dare to go in and immediately ran back to the dormitory with the basin, my heart pounding. After locking the dormitory door, I finally felt at ease. I drew the curtains and prepared to sleep, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. There was clearly the sound of the bathroom door opening, so how could there be no one there? Moreover, the building manager had mysteriously told me not to go out recklessly, which made me feel a bit scared.
Just as I was about to leave, I heard the small door of the restroom open, which startled me. I thought someone had arrived early like me and was now coming out of the restroom
Xiao Pang said: "Congratulations, your answer is correct"
I closed the door and continued to play for a while. Feeling that it was about time, I prepared to wash up and go to sleep. Our dormitory does not have a washroom; there is only a large washroom at each end of every floor, integrated with the toilets. The outside is the washroom, while the inside is the toilet.
"Classmate, you are the only one who has come to your dormitory, right?" the aunt asked me
Hello, classmate, are you here so early as well? I think it's good to greet anyone, since there's no one around anyway, having someone to talk to is nice
At that moment, I suddenly heard the sound of someone unlocking the door. I thought someone else had returned, so I took off my headphones and went out to take a look. However, the reality was not as I had imagined; it was not a returning classmate who opened the door, but rather the building manager.
Our dormitory is located in the middle of this floor, equidistant from both ends, but I am accustomed to going to the one on the left. Since it is still early before the start of the school year, only a small portion of the dormitory building is open. The corridor is quite dim, and I am wearing slippers while carrying a basin. I walked to the left washroom, making a "pat-pat" sound all the way. However, I found that the light in the washroom was broken, and it was pitch dark. With the faint light from the corridor, I could barely see the faucet, so I filled it with water to wash my face and wipe my body. After brushing my teeth, I planned to head back.
There are many snacks outside the school, and I usually enjoy going out to eat. I love dumplings, so I thought of finding a dumpling restaurant. I ordered a plate of three-flavor dumplings and also got something to drink. I finished eating slowly, and by then it was already dark. However, the school is filled with streetlights, so the darkness was not a problem at all. On my way back, I also bought a magazine about slam dunks from a roadside stand, featuring my favorite player, LeBron James, on the cover.
I immediately called Xiao Pang, and on the other end of the line came his familiar and lewd voice. I asked him when he would be back, and he said the day before school starts. He never comes back early. After exchanging a few pleasantries, I got to the main topic and asked if he knew what had happened here. Xiao Pang's response surprised me greatly
I startled him. I asked him where that person lived, and he said on the fourth floor. I felt a bit relieved; at least he wasn't on the same floor as us, and he was relatively far away. But then I suddenly thought, could he possibly live right below us?
I was at a loss for words, and it seemed I wouldn't be allowed to sleep. Without saying much more, I hung up the phone
It's nothing much, just wanted to tell you to try to stay in the dormitory as much as possible in the evening when there aren't many people around; it's not good to go out in the dark, right! The aunt said this, but I felt there was another meaning behind her words
I closed my computer, climbed into bed, and soon it was time to turn off the lights. With a "pop," the surroundings fell into darkness. I lay in bed, not daring to move, feeling as if something was watching me. I also did not dare to open my eyes. This continued for about half an hour. I was so exhausted that I was almost stiff from maintaining one position. I mustered the courage to turn over; it felt so comfortable. But immediately, I froze in that position again, not daring to move. I kept changing positions every little while, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. Just then, I felt the urge to urinate, but I did not dare to go to the bathroom, so I held it in. At first, it was manageable, but after a while, I could no longer endure it. I still did not dare to open my eyes. This went on for about half an hour. I was so tired that I was almost stiff from maintaining one position. I bravely turned over again; it felt so good. Just then, I felt the urge to urinate again, but I did not dare to go to the bathroom, so I held it in. At first, it was manageable, but after a while, I could no longer endure it. I had no choice but to turn on the flashlight and climb down from the bed to go to the bathroom
"Yes, Auntie, what is it?" I replied
I tidied up the bed, feeling quite tired, so I lay down to rest. Unexpectedly, I fell asleep right away. When I woke up, it was already afternoon. I felt a bit hungry, but the school cafeteria was still closed, so I had to go out to eat. I washed my face to refresh myself and then went out. I didn't ride my bicycle since there wasn't much to do, so I decided to take a leisurely walk.
The dormitory supervisor was sitting inside the entrance of the dormitory. I greeted her and went upstairs. Our dormitory is on the 5th floor; it's neither too high nor too low. As I passed the 4th floor, I took a look and saw it was pitch black, as if no one had returned. I thought to myself that since I was back so early, it was normal for no one to be around. I didn't think much of it and returned to my dormitory, opened my computer, and made myself a cup of milk tea. I leisurely propped my legs up and played games, feeling quite content.
The state of death is extremely frightening, with the tongue extended long, and the eyes nearly bulging out of their sockets. It appears that the person has been dead for more than a day, and due to hanging in mid-air for too long, the body has become somewhat deformed. Additionally, the post-mortem bloating has caused the body to be mottled with blue and purple, making it very terrifying
Walking in the corridor, the sound of my slippers made a "pat-pat" noise, which made me feel as if someone was following me. I walked faster and almost ran into the washroom, but it was even darker inside. My flashlight hadn't been charged during the holiday, and I forgot to charge it today. The light was dim, resembling fireflies. I barely made out the floor as I stood by the urinal and began to urinate, but I always felt someone was watching me from behind, so I finished quickly. I turned around to take a look, but apart from a few small doors of the toilets in the darkness, there was nothing. Just as I finished, my flashlight died, plunging the surroundings into deeper darkness. To make matters worse, at that moment, there was a creaking sound, and one of the small toilet doors suddenly closed by itself. I was instantly covered in goosebumps, and I hurriedly ran away in my slippers. I quickly reached the dormitory door and pushed to enter, but the door blocked me; it had locked itself. I was terrified.
When I returned to the school, there were not many people around. I hardly encountered anyone while walking from the main gate to the dormitory building. The entire dormitory building was also eerily quiet. After registering with the dormitory manager, I took my luggage upstairs. After much effort, I managed to get a large amount of luggage to the fifth floor, and I was panting heavily. Upon opening the dormitory door, a foul odor rushed at me, nearly choking me. After putting down my things, I hurriedly opened the doors and windows to ventilate the room. He said that a few days ago, someone arrived even earlier than him, but had not gone downstairs for two or three consecutive days, nor had they left the dormitory. It was not until the building manager came to check the rooms that the issue was discovered. When the building manager reached their dormitory, she knocked on the door but received no response, thinking they were asleep. After calling out for a long time without any answer, she realized that something might have happened.
Before long, someone knocked on the door. Without a doubt, it was the building manager. I opened the door to let her in. The manager's expression was somewhat unnatural.
He said: "I can responsibly assure you that for every false claim, there will be tenfold compensation"
Then the aunt went downstairs, leaving me alone in the dormitory. What she said earlier was a bit strange; why did she specifically tell me to stay in the dormitory when there was nothing going on? Could it be that something has happened, and there is still danger outside?
I glanced at the window and suddenly shivered, because Xiao Pang said that person had hanged themselves using a rope made from curtains
However, after half a day, no one paid any attention to me, nor did anyone come out from the inner room
I cannot think of anything either, but since I have nothing to do, I naturally won't go out. It is pitch dark outside, and I am not idle, so why would I go out
I find it a bit strange that the dormitory manager opens the dormitory door for no reason. However, I didn't pay much attention to it and just closed the door to continue playing the game
The aunt had someone force open the door, only to discover a chilling scene: the classmate who had arrived early was found hanging in the dormitory
I hurriedly told him to stop talking, it was so damn frightening, it sounded like a ghost story. I asked him if he was really speaking the truth
I need to figure out what exactly is going on. I took out my phone, looked at my contacts, and decided to call Xiao Pang. He is very knowledgeable about the happenings at our school—who is at odds with whom, who has reconciled, who has gone to a hotel together, and who is involved in a same-sex relationship. He knows it all. I thought he might know something about the situation.
Oh, alright, it's fine, I won't go out, thank you, auntie. I didn't delve deeper either
