Chapter 6, where is grandfather's body

Dark Small Medium Large Original Scroll to Bottom

Wu Jiayi picked up a fruit knife to help me peel the apple, glancing at me with a glare as she did so: "Isn't it all your fault? You scared me to death last night, acting like a madman. However, I must say, your courage is really not that great!"

I took a hammer, stepped on the edge of the coffin's side, and trembling all over, leaned forward to see what the three people looked like, wondering if my grandfather was among them. But people often have their unfortunate moments, and what one fears often comes to pass. Just as my center of gravity settled on the coffin board, I heard a sharp crack of a break, and before I could regain my balance, my whole body fell into the coffin right after the board!

Just as my body was about to collapse into the coffin, my hands instinctively pressed against the mound of earth on the other side, but it was still futile. With a loud "bang!", my right leg directly knelt on the bottom board of the coffin. Before I could even feel the pain, my right leg suddenly sank, and the side panel that I had stepped on collapsed down with it.

I took a hanging tool from Wu Jiayi's hand and used the other end to pry off several rivets from the coffin lid. To be honest, it would be a lie to say I wasn't afraid standing on the coffin; it's just that after spending a long time in this ghostly place, my initial fear had long since turned into numbness

In a state of shock, I hurriedly turned my body and twisted my head to the side. However, before I could fully turn around, my right hand had already pressed against the face of one of the corpses lying on its side. At that moment, Wu Jiayi's flashlight "timely" followed suit, and I couldn't help but glance at my hand. Due to the excessive force I had applied with my right hand, the already decaying corpse had its entire facial skin scraped off! It was stuck to my hand, feeling just like grabbing a piece of fish skin!

"Qianlong, isn't this your grandfather's grave?" Wu Jiayi asked in confusion as she looked at the three people lying askew in the coffin

When they could finally see everything in the coffin, the two of them were instantly dumbfounded! A wave of fear surged within me, causing my scalp to tingle and my head to buzz. Inside this not-so-large coffin lay three men! Two of them were curled up in an exaggerated posture, lying on their sides, while the third had his arms wrapped around his knees, with his face pressed against his left knee. Perhaps due to the moisture in the soil, which provided a good seal, the three corpses had not decayed into white bones; instead, their emaciated bodies were covered with a layer of greenish mold. Apart from these three individuals, there was nothing else in the coffin!

Two people stood on one side of the coffin, using all their strength and effort to finally lift the lid. At that moment, a strong, foul odor rushed towards them. The two quickly stepped back, and I had a constant feeling that something would happen. Wu Jiayi's flashlight had already shone into the coffin. After waiting for a moment and seeing nothing unusual, the two slowly walked back.

"Yes, indeed. Ten years ago, I came here with my father once!" At this moment, I am even more perplexed than a monk who cannot find his way. It is impossible to be mistaken; could it be that my grandfather's remains have been moved away?

As for how I got back, I cannot recall clearly. In any case, when I fully regained consciousness, it was already noon the next day. Upon opening my eyes, I saw several beds lined up next to each other, all with white sheets and white covers, and there were people lying on them.

I do not know how I finally got up, but after I regained some consciousness, I found myself sitting on the ground, my arms tightly wrapped around a bamboo. I was trembling all over. Wu Jiayi was sitting beside me, desperately holding onto my arm, and I could vaguely hear her continuously saying something.

"You are finally awake." As the voice sounded, I felt a movement in my leg. I looked up and saw it was Wu Jiayi.

Grandfather, the grandson is unfilial and must disturb you. However, there is no other way; my uncles have all passed away, and my father is gravely ill. Apart from seeking your help, I truly have no other options. I hope you do not take offense. Before opening the coffin, I still muttered a few words, as this might somewhat alleviate my fear

Ah! Be careful! Wu Jiayi shouted in panic, rushing over to pull me, but it was still too late

I shouted in a frenzy, "Help! Pull me up! Hurry!" In that moment, my entire psychological defense collapsed completely! The fear that far exceeded my capacity for endurance caused my brain to stop thinking altogether. I only remember my hands incessantly pounding on the decaying coffin lid, occasionally striking the corpse beside me, completely descending into a state of madness

Less than thirty centimeters away from me lies the corpse curled up in a fetal position. I do not know how it happened, but the head that was just resting on the ground has now eerily lifted up! Those shriveled, gray-black eyes, hollow yet haunting, are staring blankly at me.

I struggled to sit up: "How did you end up in the hospital?"

In a state of panic, I hurriedly turned my body, intending to push the coffin lid aside with my hands. However, before I could adjust my grip, my hands struck something hard and slightly slippery! In that instant, I suddenly realized my situation, and the overwhelming sense of fear surged into my heart like the rushing waters of a great river!
