Chapter 6 I Want to Survive

Dark Small Medium Large Original Scroll to Bottom

Just before a large number of zombies were about to surround him, the green-skinned man was fortunate enough to pry open the well cover with the iron rod in his hand. He quickly lifted the well cover and dove in. The three players who were helping him clear the area, upon seeing this, hurriedly kicked away the nearby zombies and rushed over, preparing to follow the green-skinned man into the well. This should have been the escape plan they had just discussed with the green-skinned man.

The green-skinned man was surrounded by three players, all of whom had chosen melee weapons. It was unclear what the green-skinned man said, but after he spoke, the three players dispersed and began to kick, slash, and smash the approaching zombies, temporarily clearing a small area for the green-skinned player. The green-skinned player then crouched down and used the iron rod in his hand to pry open a manhole cover on the square's ground.

The muscles in Liu Qian's arms and legs, used for climbing, had reached their limit, and at this moment, he could only rely on his willpower to persist. He gritted his teeth and held on, five meters, four meters, three meters, two meters; he was getting closer to the iron frame above the billboard, but with each half meter he climbed, it became increasingly difficult. He felt that he could exhaust his strength at any moment and slide down the iron pole, only to be torn to pieces by the zombies below who were howling up at him.

What was unexpected was that when the three players arrived, the young man with green skin, who had already descended into the well, grasped the handle beneath the well cover and closed the well cover again

It is the last mile! I want to survive!

Liu Qian witnessed this scene, catching a whiff of the foul odor of the man whose intestines had been torn apart, and hearing his extremely mournful screams. His body inexplicably trembled, as a sense of fear of death engulfed him. Without even mentioning whether dying in the game would also mean death in the real world, the sheer realism and brutality of such a death in the game was already terrifying enough

The mutated zombies have been severely damaged by the players, and their mobility is greatly restricted, making it impossible for them to catch up with the players for the time being. However, the scattered zombies emerging from the surrounding streets have blocked all escape routes. Among the few surviving players, two are still desperately trying to flee towards an open area, but they are quickly surrounded and pulled down to the ground by the zombies. Despite their struggles, they find it difficult to escape the fate of being torn apart and devoured by the zombies.

Liu Qian tightened his grip on the iron pillar to catch his breath, while simultaneously glancing around the square

Just like now, due to continuous and intense running and climbing, Liu Qian has already begun to feel thirsty. A person can endure for more than ten days without food, but can only survive for about three days without water

Fortunately, these zombies cannot climb iron pillars; otherwise, Liu Qian's fate would be no different from that of the bespectacled man below

Although climbing to the top of the billboard may not guarantee survival, not climbing up at all certainly leads to a dead end. Holding onto the iron pole without moving consumes a significant amount of energy, so after a brief rest to catch his breath, Liu Qian immediately exerted himself to climb upwards again

The dark clouds in the sky are growing thicker, rolling incessantly above the billboard, creating an overwhelming sense of oppression. Occasionally, flashes of lightning and rumblings of thunder appear at the horizon, with a tendency to shift towards this direction, indicating that a torrential downpour could imminently descend upon this square.

Temporarily safe

There were still some zombies attempting to climb the shelves of the Guanghe Library by stepping on the bodies of other zombies. Unfortunately, the human ladder they constructed was not sturdy, collapsing after barely three layers. Nevertheless, they persisted in their efforts, perhaps because their brains, having lost the ability to think, no longer knew what other more meaningful activities to engage in.

Liu Qian held the iron pillar and looked down. In this situation, it was certainly impossible for him to go down to rescue anyone, and even if he wanted to save someone, he would not be able to do so

The pain is so real that one can only imagine the immense mental and physical suffering endured by the players experiencing it. Even though dying in the game does not equate to death in the real world, it is likely to leave a profound psychological shadow.

Finally, just before Liu Qian's strength was about to be exhausted, he reached out and grasped the iron frame of the billboard. He used the last ounce of strength within him to pull his body up onto the iron frame of the billboard. After smashing a large hole in the billboard with his fist, he barely managed to sit astride the iron frame.

In the vast square, soon there was not a single player left, except for the green-skinned man who had jumped into the well and Liu Qian, who was still clinging to the iron pole of the billboard. The other eight players had all perished in this wave of zombies.

The three players struggled for half a day but were unable to reopen the well cover, possibly because it had been pulled down from below by the green-skinned man. Soon, a large number of zombies surrounded them, encircling them completely and knocking them to the ground.

"Help! Save me!" The bespectacled man shouted for help to Liu Qian, who had already climbed to a height of seven or eight meters.

Liu Qian let out a loud shout, tightened his grip on the iron pillar, vigorously wiped the sweat from the palms of his hands on his clothes, and then suddenly climbed up a few more times.

Liu Qian tightly embraced the iron pillar, his whole body trembling slightly, uncertain of the current situation of the green-skinned man in the well below. In any case, his own condition was not good. If he could not continue to climb to the top of the iron frame of the billboard, Liu Qian would eventually exhaust his strength and slip down from the iron pillar, only to be torn to pieces by the increasingly numerous zombies gathering in the square below.

Several zombies charged over, collectively bringing down the bespectacled man beneath the billboard. Some gnawed at his head, others at his feet, while some reached in and tore open his abdomen, pulling out his intestines. The bespectacled man did not die immediately; he continued to struggle desperately and scream in agony. Witnessing his flesh and entrails being bitten and torn apart, one can only imagine the excruciating pain he was enduring at that moment

Thousands of zombies have gathered in the square, densely filling all the open spaces. The zombies near the advertising pillar are all looking up at Liu Qian, who is sitting on the iron frame of the billboard, their eyes revealing an extremely bloodthirsty desire. Some zombies even attempt to climb up the iron pillar to hunt Liu Qian, but fortunately, the pillar is smooth enough that they are unable to ascend.

The current situation for Liu Qian is not very good. The supporting iron columns of the billboard are extremely smooth, with a height of at least 14 or 15 meters. He has only climbed halfway up. On one hand, he wants to exert himself to climb higher, while on the other hand, he must use his body to grip the iron column tightly to prevent himself from sliding down. All of this is very physically demanding

Even if he managed to climb up, Liu Qian felt a sense of despair in his heart. Although he could find refuge on the iron frame of the billboard, it was impossible for him to stay there indefinitely. According to the attributes displayed on his wristwatch, this game had settings for hunger and thirst levels. If he remained trapped on the billboard, he would eventually starve or die of thirst.
