Chapter 6, I am the God
Zhang Dadao nodded and said, "If you have any questions next time, just come and ask. Don't ponder aimlessly! In your situation, if you go any further, you'll be just like that confused fool!"
Su Jinjing is not a local resident; the place she lives is the dormitory provided by the hospital, which is directly opposite Building 3. Crossing the outpatient department and the administrative building in the middle leads to the two dormitories for the doctors.
Su Jinjing wore a serious expression as she approached Zhang Dadao and whispered, "Is the incident you mentioned yesterday related to Teacher Chen"
Seeing that Old Man Han nodded in agreement, Zhang Dadao then said: "Didn’t we say yesterday to inquire about the newcomer? What is the situation now?"
As night fell, shortly after 8:30, the patients were ushered into their wards. The nurses and doctors arranged for each patient to lie down, securing them one by one with safety straps before turning off the lights and leaving. Just last night, there had been an incident involving a patient attempting to jump from the building, so the doctors and nurses conducted their checks with particular diligence today. Even someone as seasoned as Zhang Dadao was similarly secured with safety straps.
Old man Han nodded and said: "I heard that he committed suicide at home, and after being rescued, he was sent directly to the Seventh Hospital. Right now, he is in the room originally prepared for the Emperor. It seems unlikely that he will be available today; even if things go quickly, we won't have results until tomorrow. If there are no tendencies towards self-destruction or violence, it is uncertain whether he can be seen. From the way he looks, he doesn't seem like someone who would commit suicide."
Su Jinjun let out a sigh of relief and said: "That's good to hear. I have spoken with that person alongside Teacher Chen, but I don't even dare to mention his name, for fear that he might take an interest in me!"
After finishing the meal, I went down to the activity room. In the corridor, I saw several doctors and nurses huddled together, whispering quietly, their expressions quite somber. Zhang Dadao staggered over, and the doctors and nurses immediately dispersed. Upon noticing that one person remained, it was Su Jinjing. Zhang Dadao's eyes lit up, and he approached her, saying: "Doctor Su, why aren't you switching shifts and going back to the dormitory to rest after your night shift?"
The confused fool who believes everything suddenly appeared, mumbling a bunch of nonsensical things. Zhang Dadao and Su Jinjing turned their heads simultaneously to glare at him, shouting: "Get lost!"
Su Jinjing explained: "Actually, it was suicide. I don't know exactly what he said to Teacher Chen, but I was with him when he was discharged yesterday. He said something like, 'If I die and you are still here, then you are God!' At that moment, I felt goosebumps all over my body, and Teacher Chen seemed a bit stunned as well"
Zhang Dadao curled his lips and said, "What does it have to do with me? Whether he loves or not is his business."
The confused fool muttered to himself while secretly glancing at the two, leaving in resentment. Only then did Zhang Dadao say: "God committed suicide, and has no grievances against Dr. Chen, so even as a ghost, he should not target him!"
"What is going on? Have you been possessed by a ghost?" Zhang Dadao scoffed, rolling his eyes without saying a word. Just then, he felt another person approach and interject: "There are no ghosts in this world; we must believe in science. The existence of souls is only divided between good and evil, and evil souls cannot remain in the human realm, so we need to purify them"
Zhang Dadao nodded seriously and gave a thumbs up to the patient, saying: "Celine, your English is truly impressive, you are indeed a sea turtle!"
Su Jinjing shook her head and said: "Before him, Teacher Chen had two troublesome patients, both of whom were overly zealous in their faith. They had not been cured for a long time, and Teacher Chen was under quite a bit of pressure at that time. He even said, 'If there really is a God, he should wake up such patients when he sees them.' Later, that patient who committed suicide came along, spouting nonsense about how he was God and wanted to return to the origin."
Zhang Dadao nodded and said, "What exactly is going on? How did I end up being deceived into committing suicide?"
"Returning to the Origin?" Zhang Dadao was taken aback for a moment, then said: "Does that guy believe in Dao? Is this a concept from Daoism?"
Zhang Dadao was taken aback and said: "Teacher Chen? Guanxi? What happened to him? Are there more photos? Is there a copy? Save one for me!"
"It's nothing remarkable," Zhang Dadao said with a lisp. "There are bound to be one or two patients like this every year. It's just that this Chen family has had a streak of bad luck, encountering several troublesome patients in a row, which has influenced each other. Plus, his wife has passed away, and he was already feeling depressed; otherwise, it wouldn't have come to this."
After saying this, no one responded for a long time. Zhang Dadao turned around to take a look, and the old man Han had already disappeared. Zhang Dadao suddenly felt a bit disheartened and shook his head: "This crazy old man, does he really have some kind of special ability?"
The patient also wore a smug expression, and as soon as he opened his mouth, he babbled a bunch of Chinglish. Zhang Dadao chose not to engage with him further and turned to enter the activity room. Upon entering, he discovered that Old Man Han was sitting on a chair by the door! The old man had his eyes closed, as if he knew Zhang Dadao had come in, and said to him: "You can chat with Selene too? Do you really believe that with his broken English, he is a returnee?"
Su Jinjing shook her head and said, "Forget it, as long as it’s not a ghost possessing me, there’s nothing to be afraid of. I still have to clean up the things left by Teacher Chen! I will leave first."
Zhang Dadao laughed and said: "What is the origin of that God? Could it be that a psychologist hypnotized Old Chen? Otherwise, it could simply be that Old Chen was deceived."
On this night, there was no conversation. The next day, upon rising and starting breakfast, Zhang Dadao felt something was amiss. The atmosphere in the courtyard appeared quite heavy. After calculating for a while with his fingers, he still found no conclusion. Zhang Dadao touched the blue pencil and looked around, then hurriedly lowered his head to rub his eyes, murmuring: "Alright, this is truly a major issue, everything seems to be shrouded in a layer of red gauze."
Old Man Han smiled but did not speak. Hearing a sudden commotion behind him, Zhang Dadao turned around and was taken aback by the scene before him, exclaiming, "Old Han, the Best Actor is going crazy; he has even put on the clothes of that doctor Chen who committed suicide!"
Zhang Dadao raised his eyebrows slightly, his dead fish eyes still present: "What? Did you see someone? I saw a ghost, didn't we come in around the same time? How come you can go up three floors while I cannot? According to what you said, the patients whose conditions worsened because of you should be more than mine."
Su Jinjing remained silent, but a patient in his thirties beside him interjected: "Well, that makes sense. As Confucius said: Know is know, no know is no know, it's know too!"
Old man Han sighed again and said, "I didn't expect that what you said yesterday would lead to trouble today. I really didn't realize that God was so capable, even deceiving Doctor Chen to death"
What a surprise! Su Jinjing was so angry that she laughed. "It's Teacher Chen from the psychological counseling department, the attending physician of the patient who committed suicide yesterday! He jumped off a building last night and his family is currently causing a scene at the administration building! It's quite bizarre, he left a suicide note that said 'I am God!' Aren't you the ones who referred to that patient who committed suicide as God?"
Zhang Dadao let out an "oh" without any concern and turned to leave. Su Jinjing quickly grabbed him and said, "Don't be in such a hurry to leave. Other doctors all say it was influenced, but I find this matter strange. I saw the suicide note just now when I was called in for questioning, and it looks nothing like Teacher Chen's handwriting! Do you think this could be..."
