Chapter 6 is entirely about ghosts

Dark Small Medium Large Original Scroll to Bottom

I turned back from the front, wanting to take her wet tissue, my hand still reaching out into the air, but I no longer had the courage to move forward. A little girl with a pale complexion and a large hole in her forehead pressed against the hand I had extended, her eyes were two empty holes, facing me, blocking the space between me and Nie Huayu.

The person referred to as Grandma Wang by Nie Huayu took a piece of candy from her clothing and gave it to Nie Huayu. Nie Huayu smiled and said: "Grandma Wang, you still carry candy with you everywhere, no wonder the children like you so much, I like you too"

Heavens! How many ghosts are there!

"Hold on!" Nie Huayu walked towards me, suddenly passing through the girl's body. "What's wrong with you? You've been in a daze." I saw the little girl pause for a few seconds before slowly turning around and walking away in the opposite direction

I followed Nie Huayu forward, and as I brushed past that woman, her head suddenly tilted to one side and fell off. My pupils instantly dilated and contracted, yet I did not dare to turn my head to look. However, from the corner of my eye, I saw that woman nonchalantly push her fallen head back into place; it was a ghost! My breath caught in my throat. After taking a few steps, I quietly turned my head to look back, my heart racing in shock, as it seemed that the ghost had noticed me, for I saw her head that had just been turned back!

Two corpses, each with only a head and no body, are hanging from a branch by a rope. Both heads belong to men, their mouths wide open, blood flowing down from their eyes, which have burst out, leaving the white eyeballs hanging on their faces. I always have the illusion that these white eyeballs are quietly watching me

I also cannot understand; the various things that Nie Huayu mentioned seem very much like encounters with ghosts, yet this community indeed has no ghosts.

I wiped my forehead, which was drenched in cold sweat. Looking back, there was no sign of Lin Li and her boyfriend. I calmed down a bit and then went to catch up with Nie Huayu, asking her: "Was that girl and the guy just now your friends?"

Sister Lin Li is truly a perfect match with Brother Xiao Zhi; I am utterly envious!" said Nie Huayu

"She is one of the residents of this community. You might feel a bit put off by her heavy makeup, but she is really a wonderful person. Even without makeup, she is very beautiful, and her relationship with her boyfriend is quite good. Moreover, she is very kind to everyone in the community, and she is quite nice to me as well," said Nie Huayu. I did not say anything to her, just listened quietly.

Since I promised Nie Huayu to come and help her take a look at this community, I began to observe my surroundings seriously. Strangely enough, even though the sky was shrouded in unusual dark clouds, I did not see a single ghost in this community. This place seems rather too clean, completely contrasting with the state of the sky.

"What is wrong with you? Is it very hot? I see you are sweating a lot," Nie Huayu asked me with concern, handing me a wet tissue: "Here, wipe yourself first."

As they reached the center of the small bridge, Nie Huayu pointed to the lake below and said, "Look, aren't the fish in there particularly beautiful?"

Nie Huayu led me to her family's floor. On the way, we encountered a brightly dressed woman who was walking towards us with a man. Nie Huayu greeted them with a smile: "Hi, Sister Lin Li, Brother Xiao Zhi"

My mood... truly confirms a saying from Buddhist scriptures: the eye of the flesh is dim and unclear, seeing the near but not the far, seeing the front but not the back, seeing the light but not the dark

The entire lake was stained a deep crimson color, with countless dead fish floating belly-up on the surface. I do not have a phobia of clusters, yet upon witnessing this scene, I felt as though I was on the verge of an episode. Bubbles were rising and gurgling on the water's surface, and I focused on the spot where the bubbles emerged. From the depths of the water, a cluster of hair slowly floated up, the long black hair spreading out in the blood-red lake like a black flower, a flower nourished by blood

"Xiaoyu, are you done with school?" The man greeted Nie Huayu.

I lacked the courage to continue looking and quickly ran across the small bridge, pulling Nie Huayu along. Just after crossing the bridge, I saw an old lady sitting on a stone bench. Her face was covered with deep wrinkles, and her sunken, hollow eyes were fixed on me with an intense gaze

"Bai Ling, hurry up and catch up. What are you standing there for?" Nie Huayu, who was in front, turned around to call me.

I took two quick steps forward: "Let's go, hurry up and head back to your home."

We arrived at a small garden, which had water, a small bridge, and a little grove, with quite good greenery. Nie Huayu smiled at me and said, "Walking across this small bridge is a shortcut. Passing through the small garden leads directly to the building where I live. What do you think? If our community didn't have those strange occurrences, wouldn't it be very beautiful?"

Upon seeing that piece of candy, my expression suddenly changed dramatically. I quickly rushed over, grabbed Nie Huayu's arm, lifted her up, and ran swiftly out of the garden with her.

"Impossible!" She did not believe it at all: "How could that be! Is my encounter with a wall of ghosts not due to the presence of ghosts?"

The woman named Lin Li smiled and pinched Nie Huayu's face, saying, "The little girl is becoming more and more beautiful."

I truly admire the capacity of my heart to bear pressure, as I have not fainted in such a situation. I was still calm enough to accept the wet tissue that Nie Huayu handed to me, wiping my forehead. Yet, I could see that my hands, while wiping my forehead, trembled like a sieve.

Beautiful ... ? ... Is it? ? I looked at the two heads hanging from a tree and felt a tingling sensation on my scalp

I followed along to see ... ...

I looked at the round object in Nie Huayu's palm and swallowed hard: "But it is a human eyeball." At the same time, I glanced towards the garden, where the old lady was also staring at me; her head slowly split in half, and a large amount of brain matter oozed out.

Nie Huayu asked me again if I had seen anything, and I truthfully replied to her: "No, there is nothing in your community."

After running all the way to the entrance of her apartment building, Nie Huayu finally let go of my hand, propping herself on her knees and gasping for breath: "Bai Ling, what are you doing? Do you know that what you did is very impolite? Grandma Wang just gave me some candy, and you took me away without even letting me say goodbye to her. No, I have to go back and tell her."

Don't go! I grabbed her again, my gaze filled with a hint of fear: "That Grandma Wang is not a human, and what you are holding is not candy, but..."

Grandma Wang! Suddenly, Nie Huayu, who was beside me, joyfully ran towards the old lady and then squatted down in front of her: "Grandma Wang, you are out to bask in the sun again!" It turned out she was not a ghost.

"Forget it, why don't you come back to my house with me to take a look first?" Nie Huayu said, and I nodded.

Indeed, it is the head that turns back, not the act of looking back! In my moment of panic, Lin Li had already hooked her arm around her boyfriend and left.

"Let's go, don't delay." Nie Huayu主动拉住我的胳膊,拖着我往小桥上走去

What you see, is it really the truth? I am currently having difficulty distinguishing whether what I see is a person or a ghost.
