Chapter 10, Salute
Leng Yang slowly walked into the police station building, his knee still ached, causing him to walk with a slight limp. The police station was not as chaotic as the hospital; Leng Yang noticed the signs of resistance from the officers, and some shell casings were scattered on the ground
He merely wiped the glass of his helmet slightly, but the putrid blood spewed by the zombie left its mark on the helmet, perhaps serving to mask some of his scent from others
Leng Yang bypassed the corpse of the zombie and approached the human. He clearly saw that one human had bullet holes in the head similar to those of the zombie, while another human had a bullet hole in the temple. The zombie behind the desk with the human had a bullet hole in the back of its head.
Indeed, there were not many zombies, only six or seven. Most of the zombies had surely been drawn away. Leng Yang remained calm and collected, utilizing the distance between himself and the zombies, relying on the tested protective capabilities of his equipment, and systematically dealt with these zombies one by one
Leng Yang cautiously avoided the gaze of the zombies, which was, in fact, his own gaze reflected in the *picture* book, and limped into the police station. Above the entrance was a large national emblem, flanked by the words "Public Security" and "POLICE" in bold letters. However, the interior was completely deserted, and the police cars parked in the yard were covered in a thick layer of dust. The marks on the ground indicated that many zombies had come and gone.
Leng Yang rested at the convenience store for a full two days. He found some tiger bone plaster and applied it to his knees. During this time, he reinforced his gear once again, creating better-fitting armor using a new biscuit tin.
When the zombies fell, Leng Yang walked into the office of the police station, which should have been filled with public security officers. He did not find the firearms he was looking for. Leng Yang slowly climbed to the second floor and entered an office.
Leng Yang understood that after the zombie mutation that day, there were actually three uninfected individuals in this room. They faced numerous colleagues who had mutated into zombies and should have resisted but were unable to descend the stairs, thus making this place their final stronghold. However, the events unfolded too suddenly, and they did not even have time to barricade the door.
Moreover, he believes that there will not be too many zombies in the police station. After all, most of the police officers are working outside, and in the event of an emergency, their response time is certainly faster than that of ordinary people. Therefore, the living will definitely draw away a considerable number of zombies
The distribution of the bodies in the office is as follows: two humans are leaning against the windowsill, facing a desk that has been dragged over. There are two zombie bodies collapsed forward on the desk, facing the humans, and another one is also behind the desk with the humans, but it is now slumped over the desk in the opposite direction to the zombies. Additionally, several zombie bodies are scattered around the area.
Leng Yang removed his motorcycle helmet; it is quite a useful item. Had it not been for this helmet, Leng Yang would have long since become one of the zombies today
The sound of footsteps startled the zombies. Leng Yang watched as one zombie after another emerged from the office. He was not anxious; after so many battles, he was no longer afraid of the few zombies in a small area.
In this chaotic office, he discovered several zombie corpses, as well as two human bodies. Leng Yang was quite surprised; this was the first time he had seen zombie corpses that he had not killed himself. The zombie corpses were completely different from the human ones; the skin was decayed, revealing the mottled white bones of the humans, while the bones of the zombies exuded a dark red hue
The spent shells scattered around them testified that the warriors fought until the very last moment. Leng Yang picked up the nearby handgun, which was completely empty of bullets. The first police officer was bitten and transformed into a zombie. The remaining two shot their former comrades. In the final moments, it was undoubtedly required that one person be executed, followed by their own suicide.
Gently stroking the phone screen, Leng Yang revealed a happy smile on his face. He would not give up on the - picture - book, he could not give up. In the original society, he had once been as brilliant as this phone, but ultimately fell behind the times. However, the reality proved that even if one falls behind the times, it is still possible to live out one's own brilliance.
Leng Yang had no other choice but to wash himself with clean water; he could only apply some safflower oil. In the end, he checked his clothes and found that his coat had been torn apart by the zombie, with numerous scratches and bites. Fortunately, the aluminum plates inside had protected him. Leng Yang planned to look for another coat tomorrow. Everything else was fine; the greatest harm this zombie inflicted on him was not to his knee, but to Leng Yang's heart.
This encounter with the zombies once again confirmed Leng Yang's hypothesis; in a one-on-one situation, he is not afraid of zombies. However, if he were to have an intimate encounter with zombies like this one, then not more than two, at most three, he would undoubtedly face death.
Leng Yang picked up the police cap scattered on the ground and placed it on the heads of the two fallen officers. In the end, he also took the cap to put on the unfortunate officer who had been scratched by a zombie. He did not know how many officers had mutated after being scratched, but he simply wanted to do something for these few individuals he had seen fighting for humanity.
Leng Yang has come to understand what happened in the morning. He cherishedly picked up his phone. Originally, he took this completely dead phone merely to hold onto a memory, as it represented his home and his former life. However, he did not expect that this phone would save his life today
Leng Yang tidied up his belongings and walked into a small shop in the alley. He struggled to pull down the rolling shutter door before taking off his clothes to treat his injuries. His arm was relatively fine; he applied some safflower oil and carefully wrapped it with gauze. The troublesome part was his knee, which had swollen completely due to excessive strain.
In this era where humanity has become a rare species on Earth, every individual who has fought against zombies is a hero. Leng Yang saluted their remains and turned around, limping out of the office
