Chapter 4: The Dual Forces of Yin and Yang

Dark Small Medium Large Original Scroll to Bottom

After Huang San finished reading, he suddenly realized that within the Yin-Yang Dual Evil Formation, there exists a type of formation that allows the Yin Evil to absorb the Yang energy from the Yang Evil to sustain itself. Moreover, the Yang Evil must be a living being at the time of burial, meaning that the Yang Evil is drained of its Yang energy by the deceased Yin Evil until it dies. Furthermore, the Yin Evil would not be able to kill the Yang Evil in a short period. As Huang San contemplated this, his gaze briefly passed over the Yin Evil, which indeed turned out to be the spirit of a deceased nun, as evidenced by the dark-colored robe that could still be recognized. However, the Yin Evil seemed to be hesitating, or perhaps it was waiting; another possibility was that it regarded Huang San as a plaything. Everyone knows that when a cat catches a mouse, it does not immediately eat it but plays with it until it grows bored before consuming it. With this thought, Huang San's gaze again passed over the Yin Evil, confirming it was indeed the spirit of a deceased nun. The Yin Evil appeared to be hesitating, or perhaps waiting, and there was also the possibility that it viewed Huang San as a toy. Thus, the Yin Evil did not attack again, but instead continued to emit a hissing sound.

Huang San was pondering how this malevolent spirit had discovered him. He had clearly concealed his aura with the Yin Gathering Talisman, yet he was still detected by this malevolent spirit. As Huang San touched the Yin Gathering Talisman on his chest, it crumbled away like fragments from his body. With a helpless shrug, Huang San realized that the Yin Gathering Talisman was ineffective against this malevolent spirit

Huang San exerted considerable effort to draw the Taiji Bagua formation with his peach wood sword. Fortunately, there was a thick layer of dust on the ground; had it been all bricks, Huang San would have truly struggled. After completing the formation, Huang San took out twenty-four incense sticks from his backpack, lit them, and inserted them at the eight cardinal points. He then placed the peach wood sword at the center of the formation to enhance its effectiveness.

As the Yin Sha saw Huang San and dodged its attack, this time there was no pause like before. With a roar, it lunged at Huang San again. Huang San realized that continuously dodging was not a solution; his stamina was limited, yet this Yin Sha seemed tireless. If this continued, he would inevitably be caught by the Yin Sha, and then he would be left with no tears to cry. A chill ran through Huang San's heart, and he bit his tongue, spraying a mixture of fresh blood and saliva towards the lunging Yin Sha. The Yin Sha was hit by this blood and phlegm, and a cloud of green smoke erupted from its body, accompanied by a piercing scream that echoed throughout the graveyard. Do not underestimate this blood phlegm; it contains some significance. This is what Taoism refers to as Pure Yang Night, as the blood flows from the tip of the tongue. The tip of the tongue is considered the most Yang part of a person, and combined with the potency of saliva, it is quite formidable. However, this can only be used in emergencies; if used frequently, one might end up consuming their own tongue.

A mouthful of pure Yang liquid sprayed onto the Yin Sha, causing it to let out a cry and slow down. Huang San seized the opportunity and delivered a Thunder Palm strike to the Yin Sha. This Thunder Palm was executed by inscribing the Five Thunder talisman with blood on his hand. Just at that moment, the pure Yang liquid that Huang San had sprayed had bitten into the tip of his tongue, and he casually used a bit of saliva to draw a Thunder Palm for the Yin Sha.

This time, Huang San encountered the guardian corpse of a Taoist priest, and the formation created by this priest's corpse was the Yin-Yang Dual Evil Formation

As Huang San moved, the malevolent spirit also sprang into action, charging directly at Huang San with incredible speed. Although Huang San was quite frightened, his years of experience dealing with such matters allowed him to roll to the side and evade the direct attack.

Just now, Huang San had already touched the corpse, thus triggering the formation, and the previous gust of cold wind was a signal. Moreover, the tomb raider had activated this formation a month ago, and the Yin and Yang dual evils had been absorbing the resentment from the world for a month. With Huang San's entry, it is highly likely that the Yin and Yang dual evils will immediately rise. However, it is still unclear where the Yin evil is located; it should be on the other side of the entire tomb, resonating with the Yang evil to form the Yin and Yang dual evil formation. Although these dual evils are positioned differently, if this formation is touched, the Yin evil will certainly rush to the location of the Yang evil according to its energy field. They will then work together to kill the intruder and share the spoils. When it is said that the corpse evil consumes humans, it does not mean that they eat people, but rather that they bite them to death and absorb their Yang energy to nourish themselves. They will then work together to kill the intruder and share the spoils. Although Huang San had previously seen the appearance of this Yang Sha, he was still taken aback by the sudden sight of this Yin Sha descending from above. Startled, Huang San staggered backward, his steps unsteady, and he gasped for breath

This formation is composed of a large Bagua array. Although it is said to be simple, drawing it actually requires considerable effort and time. If the person drawing the formation is slightly negligent, it will no longer be a formation but merely a painting. Furthermore, after completing the formation, one must light twenty-four incense sticks to stabilize the eight extremes, which correspond to the eight trigrams and their eight extreme points. At each extreme point, three incense sticks are offered to the deities of the eight directions, allowing these deities to guard the malevolent entities within the formation. However, once the incense burns out, the trapped malevolent entities will escape. At that time, it will be even more difficult to contain them.

After completing all of this, Huang Sang was about to catch his breath when he suddenly heard a sound. The corpse-restraining talisman unexpectedly ignited out of thin air. The Yin Sha let out a roar and lunged at Huang Sang once more, moving even faster than before, clearly indicating that Huang Sang had provoked it. Huang Sang quickly retreated into the formation, but the Yin Sha followed closely behind. Unfortunately, Huang Sang was still a step too late; before he could fully retreat into the formation, the Yin Sha pounced on him, knocking him to the ground. A foul odor assaulted his nostrils as the gaping maw of the creature aimed to bite into Huang Sang's neck. Just as it seemed too late, Huang Sang swiftly drove the copper coin sword into the Yin Sha's lower rib. The creature let out a wretched scream, its head tilting back as drops of putrid blood splattered onto Huang Sang's face. Seizing the opportunity, Huang Sang immediately freed himself from beneath the Yin Sha and ran towards the Tai Chi Bagua formation. But could Huang Sang truly lead the Yin Sha into the formation successfully?

Huang San understood that although there was only this one demon, it appeared much easier on the surface. However, in reality, this single demon was more difficult to deal with than two demons.

After Huang San made this deduction, he tightly gripped the peach wood sword. This type of corpse evil was not something he could easily subdue; it was very likely to become a supplement for this dual evil of yin and yang. Huang San took out a Yin Gathering talisman and affixed it to his chest. This talisman would conceal his yang energy, effectively rendering him invisible to the corpse evil. Since the corpse evil had no eyes, or rather, no vision, it relied solely on the yin and yang energy fields to discern individuals, attacking those with positive energy.

Huang San was pondering how this pair of ominous eyes could exist when suddenly a chill sensation swept over him from the top of his head. Soon after, a drop of viscous substance fell onto Huang San's face. As he touched the sticky liquid on his face, a foul odor pierced his nostrils. He instinctively looked up, only to find a pair of eerie, hollow eyes staring down at him. These eyes had long lost their pupils, leaving behind only decayed eye sockets. The sockets were embedded in a distorted face, which could hardly be called a face anymore. The flesh on this face had rotted away, revealing the ghastly bone structure beneath. The lower jaw was also decayed, with drops of viscous substance dripping from the corners of its mouth. Its hands were clawing at the wall, and its feet were positioned at the corner, resembling an enlarged gecko, but this creature was far more repulsive than any gecko.

The Yin-Yang Dual Evil Formation is composed of both Yin and Yang elements. This means that the corpse in the coffin before Huang San is solely a Yang evil, and there must be another evil body, the Yin evil, to complete the formation. Using the corpse of a Taoist priest as the Yang evil, it is highly likely that the Yin evil is a nun.

Huang San glanced into the coffin, where the Yang Sha still stood inside. The remnants of the Daoist robe were scattered at the bottom of the coffin. The withered arms hung down, and the eyes, both spirited and vacant, were fixed on Huang San

Huang San looked at the copper coin sword, feeling a sense of relief that it could deter the Yin Sha. However, after such a long time, why had the Yang Sha not made a move?

After being struck, the Yin Sha let out a terrible scream and flew out, rolling on the ground. Just as it was about to rise again, Huang San took advantage of the situation and affixed a corpse-restraining talisman to the center of the Yin Sha's forehead. Once the talisman was applied, the Yin Sha immediately froze in place, motionless like a corpse. Of course, the Yin Sha was already a corpse; it merely had the ability to move. Seeing that the Yin Sha was restrained, Huang San let out a quiet sigh of relief. However, he understood that this restraint was only temporary, as he noticed the talisman was emitting green smoke, estimating that in a few minutes, the Yin Sha would revive. Nevertheless, this had given Huang San enough time. Without hesitation, he took out his peach wood sword and began to draw the Tai Chi Bagua formation on the ground.

Huang San saw that the Yin Sha remained motionless and did not dare to move himself. He shifted his gaze to the Yang Sha and noticed some remnants of ropes nearby. This perfectly confirmed Huang San's view that there was only one corpse Sha here, which was the Yin Sha before him. Having clarified this point, Huang San no longer needed to concern himself with the Yang Sha and could focus entirely on dealing with the Yin Sha.

Since the Yin Gathering Talisman is ineffective, we can only confront it head-on. Using a peach wood sword against this malevolent spirit does not seem to yield significant results. Subsequently, Huang San took out the copper coin sword. As soon as the copper coin sword appeared, the malevolent spirit trembled slightly, seemingly afraid of this copper coin sword.

Thinking of this, Huang San slowly moved his body towards the corner of the wall, in order to prevent the malevolent spirit from attacking him from behind. When Huang San finally positioned himself in the corner, the malevolent spirit remained motionless in the suspended coffin. Huang San secretly breathed a sigh of relief: Could it be that he had not triggered this formation? Impossible, that chilling wind was the signal for the formation's activation.

The malevolent spirit, seeing Huang San evade its lethal attack, let out a series of sharp cries from the corners of its mouth, as if venting its dissatisfaction

The formations within ancient tombs are designed by ancient geomancers or Taoist priests. In some royal tombs, there may be a Taoist guardian within the formation, who, of course, protects it with his own corpse. This involves the cruel method of killing these priests to set up the formation and guard the royal tomb. Such formations are generally more powerful than ordinary ones, as Taoist priests serve as a medium between yin and yang, possessing strong spiritual energy. The greater the resentment and the stronger the vengeful spirits, the more powerful the formation becomes. This cruel method of killing the priests to establish the formation and guard the royal tomb is repeated, as these formations are typically more potent than usual due to the inherent nature of the Taoist priests as mediators of yin and yang, with their powerful spiritual energy and the strength of the vengeful spirits enhancing the formation.

Huang San took a deep breath of cold air, looking at the Yin Sha before him, suppressing the urge to retch. He intended to draw a Tai Chi Bagua formation on the ground with a peach wood sword to trap this Yin Sha. However, as soon as Huang San moved slightly, the Yin Sha lunged at him, showing none of the trembling demeanor it had moments before. It turned out that this Yin Sha truly regarded Huang San as a plaything. Huang San cursed inwardly, not daring to confront it head-on, and could only awkwardly dodge.
