Chapter 2
Sui Anran was momentarily taken aback, his gaze falling on his distinctly knuckled fingers. He held on for just a moment before quickly releasing, casually taking the flashlight from the receptionist's hand.
Having said that, he did not wait for her response and quickly walked inside
Wen Jingfan walked over a few steps, turning off the flashlight and holding it in his hand. When he reached her, he glanced at her in the dim light, saying, "In the future, when coming to such places, let them accompany you; it is not safe to be alone."
The water appeared slightly yellow under the light, and was not clean. Anran, however, seemed to be completely oblivious, and without heeding the security guard's unspoken warning, stepped right in, directly walking to the area where the water was most severely pooled. After taking a quick look around, she finally let out a faint sigh of relief
She sat in the office for a moment, watching the increasingly strong winds as a typhoon made landfall outside, her brows slightly furrowed
As expected, not even ten minutes had passed since sitting down when the security guard from the underground parking lot rushed in, looking panicked: "Manager Sui, there is a problem with the drainage on the east side of the parking lot... water has accumulated!"
Sui Anran was momentarily taken aback, and then her expression turned completely grim
As soon as he released his grip, Su Anran slightly awkwardly withdrew his hand, touching his still warm wrist, his face slightly flushed, yet he turned around nonchalantly and instructed in a low voice: "Call the guests' rooms and inform them that the typhoon has damaged the electrical circuits, the hotel has a backup power supply, and ask them to remain calm."
Sui Anran stood there under the illuminated lights, without any makeup, yet her cheeks faintly glowed with a hint of color. She stood there straight, gazing at him without blinking.
As they emerged from the underground parking garage, he seemed to have something to say to her, his pace slightly slowing down until she caught up, walking side by side with her: "Is this the first time you've encountered such a situation?"
But after taking just a few steps, he stopped and whispered in a lowered voice: "Do not move while standing there."
However, there are too many items on the cabinet, and her hands keep touching the sharp edges, yet she is unable to find where the phone is.
As she spoke, she had already flipped the switch and directed the light towards him, the illumination landing squarely on the wrist he was holding.
With a soft click, he turned on the flashlight, the beam of bright light did not shine on her, but rather slanted onto a nearby pillar, illuminating the very spot where she stood
She held the teacup, gazing at the river outside the hotel, which was rising rapidly. A sense of anxiety filled her heart, as if something was about to happen, leaving her restless.
Upon hearing Anran's words, Huo Ran suddenly stood up, the movement so vigorous that it knocked over the cup beside him, sending it crashing to the ground. The glass water cup hit the smooth marble floor with a crisp sound, shattering into pieces.
The parking area in the northeast corner is a dead corner of the underground parking lot, independently divided into several spacious small rooms, with a low structure. Due to the lack of ventilation, the air is somewhat stuffy
Sui Anran was momentarily taken aback, and only after seeing him walk ahead did she quicken her pace to catch up, saying, "There is nothing to worry about at the hotel"
"Is there a power outage?" the receptionist said weakly, and then suddenly remembered something, her voice rising a bit: "What about those guests, Manager?"
Only then did Su Anran let out a sigh of relief. After taking a few steps inside, she saw a beam of flashlight light coming towards her and decided not to advance any further.
Sui Anran followed his gaze down and clearly noticed it, her expression awkward: "That... I just came over from the eastern parking lot, it's flooded over there"
When Su Anran returned to the lobby after changing her shoes, she unexpectedly saw a guest checking in.
The receptionist suddenly widened her eyes, awkwardly shifting the light to the side, "Following the manager..."
Hmm? She raised her head to look at him, her tone slightly puzzled, momentarily unsure of the meaning of his words
He only glanced at her briefly before quickly averting his gaze. The beam of the flashlight also probed inside, and as it illuminated the surroundings, he contemplated the idea of going in to take a look
The lighting in the spacious underground parking garage is not very bright, casting a faint layer of mist over the entire parking area
Wen Jingfan did not respond and turned around to walk back
Wen Jingfan glanced at her and after a long while finally replied: "I found it."
She knows that Wen Jingfan has always had a habit of taking some time each year to stay at Fanyin Temple. It is unclear whether this is a common trait among those who believe in Buddhism, but there is always a gentle and refined aura about him. Even if his demeanor and actions seem somewhat distant from you, it does not diminish your fondness for him.
The man had already walked a few steps closer, and as he shone the flashlight he was holding upwards, it immediately allowed her to see him clearly
The security guard followed his gaze and, upon seeing Sui Anran, his expression instantly became complicated: "... So you were referring to our Manager Sui."
She immediately arranged for several available security guards to pump out the water, while she repeatedly checked the underground parking garage herself
He is sitting in the position she was just in at the front desk, holding a disposable paper cup in his hand, gazing out the window, seemingly lost in thought
Due to the heavy wind and rain, it is difficult to make any progress on the road. Many pedestrians are seeking shelter from the wind and rain, and some have simply chosen to check into the hotel. The janitor is tirelessly mopping the slippery lobby floor, and each time the automatic door opens and closes, a large amount of rainwater rushes in with the wind
Wen Jingfan glanced at her, just about to speak, when suddenly there was a "bang" and the light before him vanished in an instant, plunging everything into darkness
As Su Anran turned around and picked up the coat from the back of the chair, she wrapped it around herself and hurriedly walked out from the front desk. She only had time to instruct her to ask the cleaning staff to sweep the floor before she rushed to the underground parking garage with the security guard
Looking at him through the distant hazy lights, he has a tall and slender figure, standing at approximately 1.85 meters. ... The key point is ... . .. She is very familiar.
The parking area in the northeast corner, designated for employee use, has dim lighting. There is only one light outside, which flickers continuously due to unstable voltage
Wen Jingfan did not walk far; the interior was not very deep, just somewhat spacious, and there were quite a few corner pillars. He circled around the pillars, looked around, and found that there were no major issues, so he returned the way he came.
Only then did Su Anran come to her senses, nodding slightly, as they walked back to the hotel lobby, just two steps apart, one in front and the other behind.
The security guard stationed at the reception did not see Sui Anran not far away, smiled at him, and politely asked, "Mr. Wen, have you found the person?"
This late yet fierce typhoon left her feeling unsettled throughout the entire day
Against the light, it became even more difficult to see the man's appearance clearly, yet a subtle stir arose in my heart
Hmm. He responded with a sound, his hands tucked into his pockets, and he lowered his head to glance at her, "Someone in the east is already watching; there shouldn't be any major issues."
Wen Jingfan is such a person, with gentle features, warm and jade-like, yet always maintaining a sense of distance, making it impossible for you to get close no matter how hard you try
...
Regardless of how bold Anran might be, in such a situation where the enemy and ally are indistinguishable and there is no illumination, a chill runs through her heart. Just as she was about to speak, the person had already stopped a few steps away from her.
Wen Jingfan took two steps forward and, seeing that she was still standing still, finally spoke to remind her: "I will come down to take a look later, but first, come back with me and change your shoes."
After standing at the door for a moment, watching his figure disappear around the corner, Sui Anran then followed him inside
He picked up the teacup and took a sip of tea. When he spoke, his lowered voice was slightly magnetic, with a hint of huskiness, unconsciously carrying a touch of allure. "Are you temporarily assigned here?"
The powerful typhoon has begun to make a strong landfall; not to mention pedestrians on the streets, even passing vehicles are nowhere to be seen
She quickly followed the security guard to the eastern parking area. Fortunately, the issue was discovered in a timely manner; only the eastern side experienced rainwater backflow, resulting in a layer of standing water on the road, reaching just to the ankles.
the day after tomorrow
She walked around to the front desk, hung her coat to the side, and when she returned, he had already turned his head to look over. His gaze was deep and shallow, reflecting the crystal chandelier in the lobby, its brilliance shifting and swirling, resembling a cluster of bright lights.
Only after the guest left with the room card did Anran notice Wen Jingfan, who had been blocked by the guest earlier
As Sui Anran approached, she noticed the receptionist casting her a series of intense glances, making exaggerated facial expressions. However, Sui Anran, completely lacking in understanding, failed to grasp what she was hinting at.
As Su Anran was momentarily taken aback by his voice, her ears flushed with warmth, and she instinctively lowered her head to conceal her reaction, responding softly with a murmur.
After carefully inspecting the hotel’s preparations for the typhoon, she simply took her seat in the lobby downstairs
"Follow the manager." The receptionist was startled by her, and her complexion turned pale.
She faintly heard the sound of water, hesitated slightly, and just as she lifted her foot to take a step forward, she heard a rhythmic sound of footsteps approaching from one side, coming closer.
Once, when Anran left with a colleague, she came here to pick up a car. Since it is a basement without natural light, she had never seen how large this place actually is
Wen Jingfan's eyebrows were slightly raised, and her pair of eyes were bright and clear, with a faint cluster of light hidden in the depths, carrying a hint of melancholy. Her nose was straight, yet the corners of her lips were gently pressed together
The lighting here is bright, and he effortlessly notices a small patch of water stains at her feet, as well as the pair of black, damp leather shoes, which bear some dirty marks of sand on the surface, giving them a somewhat disheveled appearance
The receptionist was momentarily taken aback, but quickly retrieved the flashlight and handed it over, asking, "Is this what the manager is looking for?"
Thus, one foot is immersed in mud and water
At this moment, seeing him enter, the sound of his footsteps gradually faded away, causing a sense of panic. I couldn't help but raise my voice and call out his name: "Wen Jingfan?"
"Let it be as it is." His cold voice suddenly rang out, and as the sound emerged, his hand accurately grasped her wrist, gently tightening. "Just let her handle these things."
At 17:00 in the afternoon, Sui Anran completed the second inspection.
Wen Jingfan did not respond, and walked all the way to the reception room, returning the flashlight, saying, "I have finished using it"
Before Su Anran could regain her senses from the three characters "Fanyin Temple," he had already stepped in first, his tall figure enveloped in the bright and dazzling lights of the hotel, appearing even more slender.
Although Anran felt a moment of confusion, she quickly regained her composure despite the dire situation before her. Just before the power outage, she had been standing near the counter, and she groped her way forward a few steps, hoping to see if the phone could still be dialed.
He cleared his throat, and when he spoke again, although his voice remained calm and deep, it lacked a hint of allure and was somewhat clearer: "So when are we going back?"
There is no problem inside. He cleared his throat softly, just enough for her to hear.
Just halfway there, I heard her voice
"This is the first time I have encountered a super typhoon alone." She glanced up at him, a faint smile curving her lips, and naturally asked, "What are you doing here?"
"I just arrived today." He lowered his head to look at her, his voice slightly heavy: "A few days ago at the Fanyin Temple."
